Deer season 2019

Killed a doe on public land yesterday. Small window in the brush. The upgrade to Leupold optics helped me put a neck shot on her at 80yds. DRT.

A .30-06 puts meat on the pole every time

Hopefully this weekend I can connect. So far all I have seen is a 3 point, a cow horn and several small does. Trying to let the small deer grow, just hoping the neighbors do the same.

That’s always worth having a conversation with the neighbors. Kill all the little bucks, you’ll never have big bucks. Im still learning as I’m only 5 years in, and struggle with the deer that right on the cusp of maturity. I’m lucky to have a good hunting neighbor that’s killed less deer than I have because we both try to let them walk.

Another one off public land. Weirdo spike/ cow horn hybrid that needed to come out of the gene pool.

Walked out of a thicket at 5 PM. Came into the primos can call, quartering toward upwind of my rifle barrel about 85yds with his lip curled. Neck shot thru the opposite shoulder and DRT.

Got one the other day. Rut's in. I damn near missed her too.... All the other way in the other lane trying to not hit her. Would you believe that was 800.00 worth of parts and 250 for paint and labor?

Neighbor hit a good sized doe a couple months ago in a 2017 CRV. She flipped over the hood, crumpled the fender, busted the windshield and banged up both passenger side door frames.

4200.00 in damage.

These 2 were recently taken by old friends on property I've had leased in Kentucky since the late 70's.

Forgot to add these 2 deer were killed out of the same permanent stand on consecutive days by a father & son. The dad & I built a stand in the same location in 1984 when Todd was 8. His whore of a momma had run off & left him with his Dad. We raised him in a deer camp & a johnboat. And the boy is a helluva hunter. The 1st year in that stand we put him in it with a 28 lb bow & 9 arrows with broadheads.. About 9am that morning he came walking across the field to our camp with just the bow. Telling us we had to help him find his arrows & turn the power up on his bow cause the arrows were bouncing off the deer. Sure enough we found several of the arrows with blood part way up the blades. Problem was he was a small boy & couldn't pull back a bigger bow. He said he'd seen 20+ deer that morning & several were little bucks. We started him with a little sawed off 20 ga after that.
Todd now has a 6 year old daughter that handles a baitcaster as good as I ever did.

Saw a lot of does over the weekend but no bucks. Neighbor kid got one of the two 8 points. Haven't seen the other on my cameras much last week or so. Going out either Wednesday or Thursday and will just take what I see. Hoping the big 6 point survived the weekend.

Grandpa had this buck hanging last night when I got home from work so I got it skinned and quartered for him. He was so proud. I just put up a feeder for him 2 days ago and he was saying he wanted to shoot one more just so he could see if he still had it in him. He’ll be 85 in December. Toughest man I know. Good for him! I hope to do the same at 85.

Can't eat the horns anyway . LOL

I have one of those cargo carriers, and every time we kill one I drive around with deer on the back all the time. Usually someone is tailgating me trying to see what it is, how many points, etc.

One time I drove around Ansonville FD during their annual BBQ with a 145+ inch 8-pointer I had killed that morning. You'd think I had a naked lady riding back there the way heads turned fast enough to snap necks :D

Good thing I’m wanting to hunt off the ground this year. Set up a ground blind with some netting inside a downed oak tree about 40 yards below this.

Well at least you don't have to worry about falling out of your deer stand.
