In my opinion our President has lived up to expectations by granting a pardon for the 2 US Army small unit leaders being charged, and imprisoned,by DOD. He also restored the rank of a Seal Senior Chief that acted like a warrior of high standard.

I know there are some who feel they may not have been justified in their actions. Too bad, I honestly believe that unless you were there you need not have an opinion on the matter.

ANY small unit leader must have the confidence to make the required decisions immediately to safeguard the mission and lives of those entrusted to him!

Just $0.02 from an old fat guy who believes in our troops!

I think he reversed the decision about Gallagher because he loves the SEALs. I don't think it warranted the reversal, but I am not POTUS. I hope he does the same thing for every swinging dick who was hacked, demoted, or discharged for similar reasons.

Why don't you feel the Gallagher decision was warranted?

If I recall the case, he was demoted because of posing with war trophies (i.e., dead guys). The rules are pretty clear about that stuff; Gallagher should have known that was no bueno.

How many dozens of men have been punished someway for the same thing? Dozens. Hundreds? I know of a handful. No one has worked to get any punishment reversed. I just think for that particular thing it sets a bad precedent.

Our military has benchmarks that are not to be crossed for a purpose. Mutilation is not OK and has never been in our military but it's sickness is there for those that choose to do so and Trump by his actions just told the world it is OK for our military to do the deed. Guess who's children will suffer this day forward for a coward's actions, certainly not his.

It was my belief that he gave him back the rank of Chief and not Senior Chief. Also given Honorable discharge.

Edit: Ok I just looked it up. He was on selection list for E-8 was busted from E-7 to E-6 for the picture incident. Trump re-instated E-7 and gave back Trident

I don’t questions his actions in the heat of battle but the posing with the dead body’s is uncalled for. In battle you do have to desensitize yourself but you have to remain a decent human being after the fact.

I do agree that when his verdict/sentence was overturned, his warfare credentials (SEAL) should have been reinstated.

I could not disagree more.

Civilian oversight and control of the military is one of the founding principles of our nation. Without it, we are just as much at risk of military coup as any other. One need not have 'been there' to enforce policy, law and oversight.

It does set a bad precedent as far as standards go. I get the none of us were there, or at least I am not aware of any of us being there, so we don't know all of the details but maintaining good order and discipline is kind of a big deal. COIN operations are just as much about appearance as kinetic actions are. If you allow violations of LOAC or ROE than you are more than likely inspiring future bad guys which may not be an immediate issue but is a much larger issue further down the line. It can also anger the host nation and we do actually kind of need their permission to be in most of the countries we are in.

And NOW they want to take away Gallagher's Trident!

I gotta call B.S. on this. SECNAV needs to get over this!

Trump does need to stand by his earlier decision to restore tbeir situations.

After the last years of watching the annointed one" grant clemency to POS's like Chelsea Manning and Beau Berkdahl it pisses me off.

There is a significant difference in a snap-decision that is poorly thought out like the recent transgressions and someone who made long term plans with thoughtful planning.

I am trying to figure out the 'why'. If it's for his unethical behavior, then it should be rescinded. The Navy will yank one's warfare credentials in a heartbeat, and for a lot less than what he is accused of. If it's payback for his case being shit-canned, then I hope he wins. I pretty much stopped following most of it so I am less 'in the know.'

I DO know Gallagher has a tour deal and will be on Fox, so there's that

Animal Mother would totally be in trouble...

I guess SECNAV got over it Chuck!

It sounds like SECNAV got caught playing both sides against the middle. When POTUS gives you an order, you execute it. Apparently he told POTUS "yes, he'll keep his warfare device", but told NSW, "follow your process for removing the credentials." In any case, Gallagher will keep his bling, but end up riding a desk at MWR until he's out.
