Weighted blankets and sleep

Another “report” I’d be interested in is the “laundry” report! When I’ve washed regular blankets they get out of balance in our top loading washer real quick. These weighted blanket plus water in the washer will be real interesting.

Buy one with a removable cover, or buy a removable cover separately for it. That way you launder the cover and not the actual weighted blanket.

I wash mine in the to-load HE washer we have. On gentle cycle like it says it doesn't have any trouble. I wash it alone though so there's not anything else in there.

@BatteryOaksBilly when my wife gave me mine it was in a box and I thought it was 100 lbs lol

we have a 20 pounder here. it came as an amazon mystery with no invoice... anyway we have used it a few times last winter and I did sleep well with it.
aside from a busy mind, I have difficulty sleeping if I am too warm. the Queen controls the AC so I suffer accordingly...

Exactly. When the Mail Lady brought it I saw she was having a time with a relatively medium size box. I went out to get it and when she handed it to me my first thought was More Ammo?

I bought one for our King size bed. 25 pounds, I bought it for the wife but I love it. Just one thing, if you push it down it will slide off the end of the bed some and it takes a good pull to get it back up.

Tried a 20 pounder last night. Slept fine, but generally I do on my days off. We'll see how well it pacifies my addled brain on a work night.

Z, I’m really intrigued by this and appreciate your sharing the experience. My one question is whether the heavy blanket doesn’t turn the bed into a sauna.

My wife finally ordered one. She has hypnic jerks that wake her up. So far it's not stopped them but it has allowed her to go back to sleep easier. She really likes it. If it keeps her off some of the medication that caused this it will be a win.

SO we went to the beach for five nights. I did not take my weighted blanket. My sleep was noticeably worse. I was waking about every hour or two. I will make surety take it from now on!

When this was First posted, I had never heard of such a thing. I slept under home made quilts, 2 or 3 at a time in a bedroom with No heat. It was a wonderful up-bringing. SOoooooo, I bought one immediately on the first day of posting. Las t week RS "installed" it. Now, Maybe I'm just drinking the Kool Aid But, I swear, I am sleeping Much better. The thing is great!!!

Maybe you’re sleeping better ‘cause RS slips somethin’ in your Kool Aid?

My sleep paralysis demon does a good job of holding me down. Weighted blanket seems redundant.

The trouble with travelling with them is they are heavy LOL

I bought one of these.... I like it so far! I have slept better and wake up less during the night.
Nancy bought me one. All I can report is that being under it always reminds me of the lead thing they lay over you while getting dental X-rays. o_O
Honestly, I don’t really feel like I’m sleeping any better.

But, I don’t have any cavities. :D

Exactly...any explanation???? Don't say I'm delusional...I hear that enough!

Deep pressure (hug, weighted blanket, etc.) Increases your serotonin (happy hormone) levels and decreases your cortisol (stress hormone) levels.

Years back as a kid when we’d go stay with Grandma and Grandpa over Christmas break (back when it actually started getting cold around State Fair time) we’d sleep under two old style quilts because the upstairs of the farmhouse got so cold. Once G-ma threw those quilts over you it was hard to move from the weight ... I’d guess 5 lbs a piece. I always thought we slept well because it was so quiet, the air was so clean and crisp, we were so tired from messing around the farm or some other country reason but maybe it was the weight?

Anyway if it works don’t ask why ... just enjoy!

Much the same for me. I loved staying with my grandfathers best friend. He had a huge g farm the pee dee river. He took me turkey hunting with a breed of turkey dogs developed over the years. Basically flushing dogs that wound find and bust up a gang of turkeys and sit there and bark until we got to him. Next morning we would sneak in and call them. My god what great times to grow up. At night the kitchen, dining room and the living room were heated. Up stairs in the bedrooms you ran up the stairs undressed and got in the bed with huge heavy quilts . You got warm in spots and hardly moved all night. I remember the windows frosted over in the mornings and you never got out of bed until you heard noise in the kitchen and smelled coffee and bacon or sausage. Then you got out of bed and grabbed your clothes and raced downstairs and got dressed in the kitchen where it was warm. Then they gave you some coffee weakened with milk to get you through till breakfast. My god I wish my son and grandsons could experience this. Not going to happen.

I bought a 15 pounder a few weeks ago. I crack the window in this coolness we've had lately and I have slept better for sure. I have fought insomnia since I was a kid, and struggle to sleep more than 4-5 good hours a night, and so far, it has helped me achieve a deeper sleep, for a good 5-6 hours.

I notice that I wake up in almost the same position that I go to sleep. I think the others really hit it about staying at Grandpa's and Grandma's with the quilt. You were weighted down, warm with cool air. That's kind of what it feels like.

Now this 15 pounders is 60x80 so it fits my side of the bed. The wife... she's got the "Jimmy-legs!" She twitches and rolls and kicks!

Anybody know if these help with restless leg syndrome?

Seemed to help my wife with that.

Ordering one...

My wife's restless leg syndrome will sometimes turn into "kick the hell outta Shane" syndrome..sometimes, I think she does that sh*t on purpose, then pretends to have done it in her sleep...lol.

I have absolutely enjoyed mine. It's helped a ton. Wouldnt sleep without it.

Your wife and my wife must be sisters or atleast have the same leg kicking gene.

All this talk of 15-pounders... Where the hell are the cannon pictures???
