What are you all doing to mitigate porch pirates stealing packages this year? Any fun stories to share with the group?

Personally I will not order anything. Can't do anything about other people sending stuff to my house, but we have all deliveries brought to the back door in the carport, not left on front porch in plain view.

Cameras, driveway & doorbell. Of course these don’t really stop anyone, but that may discourage them. I order nearly everything online so getting cameras was a no brainer from that aspect alone.

We don't order much online. If it's anything of value I have it shipped to where I work. Pretty good chance I'll be the guy that takes out of the hands of the UPS driver.

Most things that come in boxes, I have delivered at work. Thankfully, they are cool with it.

I collect my two dogs poo for a week at a time for the trash. But the fedex box left on the porch with two weeks worth of poo sounds like fun. would be more fun with a spring loaded system.

I would bet that much of the theft would stop if the delivery people would just ring the damn door bell. I've been home many times when they just leave it and walk away. Or I leave my house and see boxes at my neighbors houses when I know they are home. I usually call them on the phone when I see this as I'm leaving the development. Other times if I know they are working I'll take the box in and call them that I have it.

1) live in a small no outlet neighborhood out in the country.
2) have security cameras covering every possible approach and entry.
3) work from a home office where your desk provides easy overwatch of the driveway, porch and mailbox.
4) ensure proper office equipment is present.

For High dollar items during the week I use the amazon lock boxes, there is one 1/4 mile away and pretty convenient to hit on the way home from work.
During the weekend I try to get them delivered on a Sunday when I know I’ll be home. I have cameras all around my house. People don’t care about them. This summer I was doing yard work, had all my stuff in the carport. In a blink of the eye someone pulled in the driveway and grabbed my gas can and took off. I was in the yard, they looked right at me! People will steal anything and they know the police can’t/won’t do anything about it.

I signed up for text alerts from Amazon and USPS. USPS sends me tracking updates and Amazon does that plus notifies me when the truck is nearby. So if something lands on my porch I generally know about it beforehand and I can make arrangements if I need to. If you sign up for a USPS.com account your address is linked to your email/phone number in their system so you'll get tracking & delivery notices for inbound packages even when the sender didn't request it.

Wife is home and is usually pretty on top of it. But the mailman has figured out not to ring the doorbell and get the dog wound up. So we miss the delivery occasionally. No problems yet.

We’re at the end of a gated neighborhood in the boonies + 2 Rotties.
Our problem for 2+ years is the mouth breathing FudEx driver is so lazy he’ll leave boxes at the entrance to the neighborhood 1/4 mile away for any ne’er do well to pick up.
When he was confronted he said,” I thought it was to keep people like me out.”
Multiple families have raised Cain and they still won’t fire the SOB. He posts them as being left on the porch. We report them not delivered so FudEx gets to buy and ship another to us, we’ve let them know this will continue until he does his job.
I’m aware he did it twice this week.

Me or my wife try to be home in the afternoons. Rarely do we get anything delivered B4 4pm. We are right off the highway on a long major road. For whatever reason the resi frt cos and the PO load their vehicles with the furthest away stuff at the back and the closest away stuff in the front of the truck. I signed up for the USPS daily notification and the first day we did not get what the notification said we would, I contacted the PO and the post master said that notification system was to just show you what mail you had in the "pipeline" and that there was no guarantee of when it would be delivered. That's just great. I opted out.

1) I get texts from various people about what is coming and when.
2) I use the Delivery Manager thing when I need to have something delivered later, like when I'm not going to be there.
3) I have cameras and notices about the presence of the cameras all over the place.
4) I'm thinking of some signs about being willing to protect my property with guns, but not sure about that yet. (I like Battery Oaks Billy's sign that says, "If you can read this, you're in range." It might keep the thieves away, but might also keep the people making deliveries from actually making them, so.....lol.)

Bushes/shrubs/ornamental tress/vegetation that blocks the view of your front door/porch area from the road. It wont stop someone who is following a deleivert truck though.

delivering to the wrong address is the recurring problem we have.

Have some packages go to my neighbors house from time to time. He’s cool despite being to liberal for my liking. Other than that we don’t have issues.

Nothing at my house ... but a cousin was an idiot and made a special package for those who helped themselves to packages. He used the Works and aluminum foil setup to send a message. He designed a “trip switch” by wrapping a steel ball bearing in aluminum foil and using a rare earth magnet on a string to hold it in the bottle’s lid that ran inconspicuously out of the corner of the box and was tied to a small nail in the porch floor until the trip string was activated. Luckily he only used a 16 ounce bottle so the bang and resulting spray of Works was not damaging to his wife who picked up the box and took it into the house because she didn’t know about his antics. Also it was a good thing the chemical reaction took almost a minute so she was in the next room when the “surprise” occurred.

Never a problem. Even the swedish mauser that the driver misdelivered and left on the front porch of my neighbor two houses up, who were at the beach.

(Driver found it some days later after I started raising hell)

RING doorbell! Apparently Prime has hired extra holiday drivers who are not familiar with the system. I watched as one of them jumped out of his shoes when he heard "Thank you!" coming from the front door.
