Coastal Carolina IDPA Challenge

I have heard good things about Provision Company at Southport:

http://provisioncompany.com/
I just called this place to get the lay of the land this time of year. They open just for lunch during the week, but dinner also Friday and Saturday night. They don't take reservations, but said they aren't real busy this time of year. Around where I live I always advocate for heading to dinner at 5:30 on Fridays and Saturdays to get in without a wait, but it doesn't sound like it would be a problem at this place.

Unless of course the entire match crew decide to eat there Friday night. They did say they can handle large parties.

5:30 works for me.

Preliminary course of fire was emailed today. Looks good, looks very good! I like to start from behind and it looks like Stage 1 will accomplish exactly that! :p

Stages look great! I'm with you though, I tend to fall behind on the "stand and shoot" stages.

So I tried dry firing stage 1 - what a mess! Every time I transferred my blaster from left hand to right I tried to fire instead of reload. When I got myself to reload I was instinctively putting my support hand on the gun.

Definitely going to be fighting muscle memory on Stage 1.

Yes, a mess indeed. I was rehearsing this one this morning just so I can get the hyperventilating out of the way after the first stage. :eek:o_O

When I shot Ant Hill's regular monthly match last month they had a couple of stages that would really get your ticker pumping right off the get go, and not because of the physical activity. Brain, reflexes, eyes, hands, old habits, bad habits, all doing battle with each other. lol
Very exciting.

For sure. And apparently every squad will start with this stage regardless of which bay you begin in. I think it's a conspiracy to crush our spirits from the start, lol

justjames and I shot it live fire yesterday. I was down 30 the first go around lol. Got it dialed in now I hope. Whats everybody's division? I'm SSP SS.

At least that weak to strong hand transfer your gun is empty. A long time shooter who trained soldiers how to shoot got DQed a couple of weeks ago on that very hand off because the gun was still loaded at that part of the stage. Finger got where it wasn't supposed to be and ND.

SSP EX

You set everything up at your own place? Or is it all set up at Ant Hill?

Ouch...they DQ'd him for that? Usually that would just be a penalty, no?

Ah, didn't see the ND.

From where I stood, the pistol looked to be aimed at the cover barrel pointed down just a few feet in front of his and the SO's feet as the shooter was transitioning from shooting from the left side of cover to the right, WHILE changing hands. It was all handled as it should be, but it was one of those cases where there just wasn't a question. You knew what was next as soon as the discharge occurred.

I considered it a lesson learned for any of us watching. He didn't really do anything "wrong". Shiite just happens, and it wakes you up.

Ah, didn't see the ND.

I'm the SO that called the DQ. The ND was within 6' of his feet, into the bottom part of a barrel directly in front of him.

He knew what he did before I had time to call 'stop,' completely understood the reasoning, and even hung around and helped paste the rest of the match.

I see. Calling those DQ's would definitely be the least desirable part of being an SO, even when justified. Great that he was humble enough to see his mistake and have a good attitude.

That shooter is a real good guy and a lot of fun to shoot with, and so is the SO. That's why I like shooting there as much as I do.

Here's a question, since we are talking about stage 1, which is limited.

We start downloaded to six rounds first mag. (I think CDP, SSP and ESP will all have a second reload on the final freestyle head shots).

What's the penalty when (not if, lol) you brain fart and engage the head with more than six rounds as described in the stage brief?

They will award you a procedural, and take away your best shot for every shot fired over the maximum allowed. Sometimes they also institute a flogging rule. IE - no brain farts, @fieldgrade! :D

I am marking up these stage designs like a cheat sheet before a biology exam.
Too bad I'll never remember any of it. lol

Heading down shortly, I'll see ya'll tomorrow afternoon around 5:30 at Provision Company.

Roger that. I'm having lunch with my boys at your favorite deli in Wilmington for lunch and will see y'all for dinner.

See you there! Any chance we need reservations?
They said they don't get that busy this time of year, plus if we are there at 5:30 we should be good to go. I'm going to swing by the range and check in first tomorrow.
