Local shop has a good deal on a 45/70 guide gun. What does it cost to reload 45/70 (per round)? Thanks in advance.

Depends on what you're going to shoot. If you're going cast and casting your own, pretty darn cheap. Shooting jacketed, cost goes way up. I'd urge to do some maths here. Know the cost/bullet/gr of powder/primer look at some load data and run the numbers. I shoot cast so my cost/round is way under factory and still less than my 308.

Not enough to deter you from getting a fine gun in a venerable caliber!! :D

Less than $1/rd for store-bought lead projectiles & whatever I paid for Reloder 10x last time I bought it. Cost goes up a bit for IMR 4064; it seems to be more $/lb, and you use more of it-- 51 gr instead of 44grs IF I recall correctly.

You could just tell me where it is and all your confusion and gut wrenching decision making would disappear. :D

Oregon Trail 350gr are $0.24 or less. Plinking load of Trail Boss is less than 14gr so call that $0.05. Add a large rifle primer for $0.03. So about $0.32 assuming you have the brass.

Plinking load of IMR 3031 is less than 40gr, which would be closer to $0.14 bringing the total to $0.44.

At least that's the back of the napkin analysis.

It's a stainless gun, unported, with standard buckhorn sight, short magazine tube. Shop is asking $600, but I think I could get it for less since the previous owner had it duracoated black:)

I think that I can reload some 405 grn lead bullets (I have the brass) for less than .75 a round. When I go to a Jacket bullet the cost with go up to around $1.20.

Factory rounds I figure anywhere between $1.50 and $2.50 per round.

I love the caliber.

Don't need jacketed, this round works on the old fashioned principle of momentum. Think of it this way, shoot either a high velocity bb or a low velocity brick. Don't matter which one hits, it's going to leave a mark.

I cast 340, 405 and 535 gr. bullets for 45-70. Providing I have the brass, I reload a 405 gr. bullet for $0.16 per round (trapdoor loads) if i get free wheel weights and around $0.21 if i have to buy lead. Either way, its a lot cheaper than buying loaded ammo.

Can reload with laser case bullets if you have the brass for .21 each.
Please see post #7, you must be getting the bullets for $.07 less than me...please tell me where!
