yikes. this sucks

Terribly tragic. I have young kids who love to wrestle and "beat up daddy". So I really hope both of them improve quickly.

Now that I have said that, I think it is a good reminder to all of us that carrying a firearm comes with great responsibility. Spend money on a quality holster. Know your gear. Know its limitations. Do not put yourself in a situation >intentionally< that this could happen. If his holster (if he had one) will fail while play wrestling, imagine what it would do if he was actually in an altercation.

Man that’s inconceivably horrible. I can’t imagine what mother is going through.

what gun? Reporting has very little detail. How do two people get it in grape from accidental discharge? Was it maybe negligent? Most modern firearms are thorough drop safety tested. Then not once but twice and both critical hits? This is like the anti lottery.

I carry with empty pipe personally. Especially with young kid in house if I forget and leave it on counter kid can reach, or just the basic statistics on ND while drawing and bolstering...its a balance I’m comfortable with.

when his handgun slipped out from his back and went off
WTH? How was he carrying? Doesn't sound like he used a good retentive holster. Sadly, preventable.

The chances of this happening with a decent holster are negligible. It would have to either come out of the holster or be rolling around loose in a pocket.
