Does everyone that have a handgun for sale have less than 200 rounds fired in them. Either I'm crazy or folks just shoot less than 50 rounds or 200 rounds. What's up with that. I've looked at several handguns this week and each add says the same thing. What do you guys and girls think? Truth of hogwash?

No gun I own has that few rounds in it, and I've been shooting for less than 2 years! lol. And the ones I bought new have the most rounds of them all.

PS you might indeed still be crazy, though!

I have probably 20 or more that have never been fired at all .
Just don't have time to shoot them all and most of the one I shoot are the one I shoot in some type of match, idpa, steel . Plus I own a lot of ars that I've bought in case at some point they are put on the banned list again.

I have a few that I have fired less than that, but none of them were new.

Could be legit, depends on the person.
A)They could be a casual owner & seldom shooter (like my mom)
B)could own so many that they rarely shoot gun Z (like my SA ROO)
C)they could have taken it to the range once and just didnā€™t fall in love with the gun
D)or they could be completely lying their butt off and itā€™s been fired 1-2k.

At the end of the day 200rd or 2k rds, the overall condition of the gun should show this well enough.

I find for a lot of gun purchases people like The idea of the gun more than the gun itself. Be it a new hunting or competition rig, or a fancy new carry gun that may be the most amazing thing ever according to some gun blog.

I buy one and put at least 500 through it. I can't stand to have a new toy and not play with it.

If only I hadn't taken those Hot Wheels out of the box 50 years ago and actually played with them!

And there are some less than honest people out there.

I had a jammy gun and someone on a forum suggested I sell it!

I sell or trade stuff that I donā€™t shoot, donā€™t like to shoot, or wonā€™t ever shoot (usually). I can normally tell if I like a firearm after a 50-100 rounds. Many of the ones I get rid of have far less than 200 rounds. The one ones I keep and love have way more shot through them.

I have a couple guns that I have never shot. Got 2 Glocks (19 & 23) that has less than 100 rounds down range. I just have others that I rather shoot and carry.

All my guns get shot. No safe queens here. Only gun I have that has less then 200 rounds thru it is a pump shotgun.

Could be people that own a lot of guns. I have one Glock 19 I shoot 90% of the time, probably has at least 20K rounds on it, and the rest all have under 1000, easy.

Yeah, I have a lot of guns I've shot a little and a few guns I've shot a lot.

As for ads and round count, I think a good question to ask is "are you the original owner".

The only guns that I have that have less than 200 rounds are guns that are still NIB and unfired except at manufacturer. Some of the guns I own have been fired by the previous owner and I have no clue as to how many rounds fired. Only what the seller told me. Bought one used and the guy said less than 50 rounds. When I took it apart there was no way in Hell that it got that dirty and that much crud build up in it from shooting less than a box of ammo. That's why I am asking the question. There was a guy on here that had 16 posts at the same time ,mostly Glocks and he said that they all had been fired less than 50 rounds. Also found out that he had his brother on the eastern side of Durham and his mother in the western part on the state both buying guns for him that he bought from several different gun sites. Mod's finally figured he was using the site to make a living and pulled all his ads. And also most were Glock 19s and all priced at $450 or $500

Your original post suggested a general issue you were observing, but this post suggests a particular individual.

No its not meant that way. This guy just came to mind after I read some of the comments and thought I would share his story with the guys and girls here.

I used to think that Iā€™d never own a gun for more than a few days before I shot it, then it became a few months and I can see it becoming a few years.

I rarely bother taking any pistol to the range that Iā€™m not gonna put 50+ rounds through. Th exceptions would be 44mag where I tend not to shoot more than 20.

in my experience most sellers are optimistic.

Same thought process as @JimB I never thought I would have a new toy I wouldnā€™t shoot almost immediately. Then it became a few days, then weeks. Now I have several that have not been shot, both new toys and used ones. I also have some that have that ā€œmagicalā€ less that 50 count that I just donā€™t shoot that much. I dislike cleaning them, if you choot em you gotta clean em.

Iā€™ve never kept a round count on any gun. Whatā€™s the purpose?
Agreed, I also don't keep count. I have a rough idea of which guns I've shot more than others but that's it.

I also don't really mind the round count when buying guns as long as the price is reasonable and the firearm works. At the end of the day, they're tools that'll probably outlast us, not a copy of the first Superman comic book.

ā€¦ā€¦ I have a little pocket rocket that is uncomfortable to shoot, but practical to carry in the summer when dressed light. It's about 10 years old and I probably have less than 100 rounds shot through it!

How about "I really don't want to sell this gun, but...."

Why Hells Bells, How about a give you NIB retail plus a hundred to soothe your guilt!

Hey, I wrote that once and to the day I don't know why!

I think it is mostly because people don't shoot much, but also because if a gun is up for sale, many times it's to fund another firearm that the owner imagines they'll like better.
I've been through many, especially handguns, that I thought I'd love but ended up kind of disappointed with. It doesn't take 1000 rounds to figure that out.

My favorite "round count" question asked of me was in regard to a revolver I sold on Gun Broker years ago. The gun was a 1917 S&W .45 Brazilian Crest N-frame.
You mightā€™a answered...

ā€œItā€™s been aROUND.ā€ ;)

Alot of people don't shoot that much. I seen one that was a bedside gun that had never been fired, that my friend is confidence in a manufacturer.
I believe this is the case more times than not. Especially folks who have "X" brand and swear "Mine has Never malfunctioned".

I've got a few that are almost unused. I buy too many, shoot not enough. Especially in not-cheap calibers.
I hvae a couple of .38spl revolvers that have only seen a couple cylinders shot. some lever guns i don't want to spend money on ammo for, have a beautiful garand that i let sit for a decade before taking it to a CMP class, a couple of .25 that i never seem to have ammo for, a justincase .32 that gets shot once every year or two just to cycle the ammo, a good few 9mm pistols that aren't as fun as my other 9mm pistols so they get ignored...

yeah, i've got some like-new guns

Round count mean nothing.... Have you ever seen a ad that said ( about 6 to 20k rounds, its about shot out, needs a new barrel, if you can get it to fit, trigger drags like rough sand paper takes for ever to break and sometimes just goes "click".. Finish has about had it but i put some cold blue on it to brighten it up. The glock I did a redye job on. Mags go in grip and usually stay there. A few pins are lose but stay in as log as you shoot it single action and no high pressure loads. The springs are ok, I think? Best offer over 625.00 accepted, local only, I will drive 200 miles to meet half way.

I have many guns I have never shot. I have many I shot one time out after I got it. I have a couple I took to the range twice. Like almost all people there is that one gun we shoot well and had modified which goes to the range almost every single time. Too many men buy guns they donā€™t need. Same with women with shoes.
