Well it's here again, the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona weekend.
I had planned on going again, but didnt realize this was the first week of new semester and didnt feel good about leaving my kids after the first day with a sub.
Oh well, next year for sure (way schedule is, we'll be weeks into the semester by then).

So today at 1:30 NBC will start showing coverage and go between it, their sports channel, and their app for 24 hours of coverage.

Im excited, anyone else watching?

Qualifying coverage

Love the GTD class pole winner, the Pfaff Motorsports car - they are based in Canada and have a plaid car and race suits lol

I'll be watching. Really miss being there. Used to work for Grand-Am from 2002 thru 2012 and was on the start stand for the 24 for those years. The wife and I were talking yesterday about wanting to go back. My main hangup these days is the walking. I think a golf cart is over $650 for the event if you want a guarantee of a roof. Lovely lady said she would start putting $100/month back so we could go next year.

And the overall winner will be...............................?

I started going in 02!
Been six times between then and five years ago
I WILL go next year

And, if I had to guess a winner, I got to go with Wayne Taylor Racing. Another all-star lineup and the team has so many years of experience with the 24.
Alonso and Kobyashi...killer duo in that car!

Doesn't the new Corvette run in the 24 Hours for the first time?

It'll be interesting to see how that 5.5 flat plane runs for 24 hours.
Well they've tested and tested, but this will be a real test, for sure.

Watching the above video of qualifying, the C8, in this form, is really quite quiet.
If youve ever heard a C7.R in person...WOW. And the commenters were saying this lacked all of that.
If youve not heard a C7.R at full song in person, let me say it was THE LOUDEST car on track...crazy how loud it was.

They been using, pretty much, the same drivers for years, some very very good ones like Jan Magnesen. They'll do well if the car holds.
OR, it could be like the first 24 for the new GT Ford, which they had issues pretty early on.

Also, about 18 hours of it will be on NBCsports, which is channel 220 on DirecTV, just a heads up.
Only a few hours WONT be shown on there.
Ive already got all the pieces 'auto-tuned' or whatever they call it, so it'll automatically turn to that channel at that time.

Yes....... they are starting first and fifth in class and 13th and 17th overall.
Porsche took the top 2 spots in GTLM, not Corvette
But the C8.R is quickly going to the lead within the first few minutes, currently in 2nd and not far off the 1st place (in class) Tandy

The two factory 911s are running away with the GTLM class, running 1 and 2 once again. Corvette is back to 4th and 22 seconds behind the leader.
The Pfaff car is STILL leading (think it only lost the lead when it pitted lol) GTD
And there are some good battles in DPi, but Mazda took off like a rocket and, pretty much like the other ones, just left folks behind.

No accidents yet to note, which is good.

Scott Pruett was always my favorite driver, have a few pictures with him over the years, he's tied with a current driver, Bill Auberlin, for most overall wins in IMSA.
Is it wrong that I dont want Auberlin to get another win? lol

Kobayashi is SO close to 1.34 lap time, dude is incredibly quick and very consistent, #10 WTR is flying

Feel bad for Helio and the Acura team for getting taken out early yesterday, rebuilding, but just being so far down in laps because of a 38 minute repair, 23 laps down.

Nascar's Kyle Busch has been quite impressive in his sports car racing debut

Ryan Brisco.......... OOPS. That's a tough break. Will certainly add some drama to the race for a while.
they lucked up on that caution, #10 is back out front and, with a few minutes left and SO MUCH could go wrong, they're going to take an overall win again. Back to back. WOW.

Good battles in GTLM and GTD this morning

The two factory Porsches are battling it out for #2 right now
I thought they'd work together and push each up to catch the BMW
about 9 seconds back with 22 minutes, I dont think they'll catch the bimmer
