Do we have any blacksmiths on the forum that might be willing to take on a re-melt project. I have two Kukris that bought years ago. Allegedly designed by "Stephen Henry". They are either Damascus or faux Damascus (more likely). The handles are a bit "rustic" and have never grown on me style-wise.

Open to ideas but would entertain a custom project using the harvested blades as raw material. Ideas?
 
I have a forge. I'm not sure I understand the ask though? Are you wanting someone to melt down existing blades and make something else or are you just looking for them to be rehandled?

I didn't quite understand either.

RR do you have specs for your forge. I built one and just can't seem to get it hot enough.

It's nothing fancy.

Forge body is an old helium tank. Party balloon type. Kaowool liner with satanite coating. Single Ron Reil style burner that I built. Forge is open on both ends and I use fire brick to contain the heat. I can't quite reach forge welding temps but forging temps are pretty easy.

Yeah I made one. It works pretty good and is scaleable if you want it bigger or smaller. Check that thread out @Tim
 
“Re-melting” isn’t really a thing. If you are looking to have it re-forged into something different, it will depend on what it’s made of (HC steel/SS, and what type). Re-handling is likely a much simpler matter. If you aren’t in a hurry and are willing to be a supporting member of the forum($20), I will hook you up (depending on specifics) for the cost of materials.

The burners I made were the same as yours. I went back and lined the forge with Kaowool and it does get hotter. I'm thinking I might do a second layer and also make the chamber smaller.

I am wanting it made into something else. The handles are a separate issue and could easily be replaced, but I am not finding the Kukris useful. Was thinking of melting down the blades and making something new, if that is possible or advisable.

Not looking to re-handle but have been long enough that it was time to support. Account upgraded.
