So the ballot came in the new American Rifleman. Oddly, the descriptions of the candidates don't include any information on whether they want to see WLP ousted, or whether they're just bootlicking hacks. Does anyone here have any information on which candidates it might make sense to vote for?

I'm also not sure whether the Board actually has any authority to dump WLP. I've never followed the internal politics of the NRA. But as a life member I reckon I might as well use my vote to do what I can to get that jackass out on his ear. If prosecutors don't get it done for me.

Anyway, any genuine information about good candidates to vote for would be appreciated!

Same boat here...
Life member that has (honestly) kinda lost interest in the last few years.
I appreciate what they have done but just don't like what (I've been told) WLP has done.

Seems like a recurring theme. Life member, lost interest due to internal bs, but in light of VA fiasco, I have renewed interest. Following this thread to see others info and views.

The original poster brings up a great point - does the board, or anyone, have the power to get rid of WLP?
Or is his resignation the only option?

The existing life members with voting powers are the ones that need to enact change from within if they can. I am not a life member and would not become one with the current situation.

You don't have to be a life member. US citizenship and 5 years in a row are enough. I am a life member and my wife has a regular membership that she keeps only because of her NRA instructor status. We both received ballots this year (however I had to fight them for three years before they started to send them).

So, who is good to vote for?

Maybe an arfcom thread? The guy from Military Arms Channel or one of the other vloggers that was against WLP maybe? I don’t use FB or Twitter so I won’t see anything there.

Another Life Member that agrees Wayne needs to go.

IF anyone has a list of board member to vote for that will get Wayne out, please let us know.

I do not care if what is said about Wayne is true or false. IT happened on his watch so he needs to go.

... really?

"The BUCK stops here."

The rumor of WRONG DOING happened under his watch. He is responsible for allowing the rumor to get started. Should have had procedures in place that have correct oversight over the organization so that there is no appearance of wrong doing.

I think the whole context of his statement is in agreement with the rest of us and is not far from the truth.

Interesting to me that the NRA in 2 issues NO info about the 2A fight in VA or the bought elections. I understand publishing
lead time but put a sticker or a card in the magazine. These clowns have lost my $$ and support

Still not sure who best to vote for to get this needed change in an important organization. Seems like if Wayne really was concerned about the NRA, he would step up and resign -course it's all about the money for him.

They tried to lure people on Jan 13 with the offer of Magpul items to show up, that were given to NRA. I believe the vast majority of those items are still in NRA HQ’s

My only vote is Mark Keith Robinson. I know nothing about the others.
Does anyone here know Robinson's views on WLP? He's a local guy, so maybe he's on here or has friends on here.

I'm playing around with voting only for the candidates who are NOT endorsed by the nominating committee. Doesn't that, almost by default, tell us that they're outsiders and maybe more likely to try to tear stuff up?

The rules are well written to secure the NRA establishment. The vast majority of board delegates are Wayne supporters. Just like the two party system by the time you get to vote there is no one left that makes a damn. Mark Robinson is the new voice for the time being just like Nuggent was but a slip of the tongue will get him shown the door as well.

The NRA is dead. They are so corrupt and do nothing but compromise and beg for money. Gun owners of America gets my money now.

GOA also gets my money.

NRA has training wrapped up in their organization. WE are going to be hard pressed to build another organization to take the palace of all the training material and programs that the NRA provides.

Please show me were I am wrong.

I really don’t want training and materials from an organization. I want them to fight and lobby for my 2A rights. The NRA can stick their programs. The US Army provided me with training which I then pass to my family. GOA fights in the media, lobbies congress and in court. That’s what I want them to do. I dont need them to train me.

Another Life Member here. Which American Rifleman was the ballot in? I need to have my wife send me mine down range. Another who also agrees Wayne needs to go and no compromise.

CD

I'm not arguing with you, but the NRA historically is devoted to passing on the American tradition of citizen marksmanship. That's really what the whole organization was about. Lobbying is an add-on to the mission. A good add-on, but still an add-on. One might say that the only reason the Army was able to teach you how to shoot is that in the years between the various great wars--Civil, WWI and WWII, great soldiers like Whelen, Hatcher, and others were keeping shooting knowledge alive, and continuing to build it up and spread it to the young men of the nation. And the reason we have such a great history of military marksmanship, such as our heroic Marines at Belleau Wood, is largely attributable to NRA programs.

Lobbying for gun rights is a lot easier when the people have been exposed to guns in real life. I personally think the NRA's education and training wing is by far its most important service to the country.

I actually took a few minutes to work on my plan of voting for the candidates who are not endorsed by the board. There are only two of them. Frank Tait and John Cushman.

Howard Walter is from Flat Rock, NC. Mark Robinson is from Greensboro, as noted above. Herbert Lanford Jr is from Columbia, SC. All local guys. Anyone here have any useful information? If not, I guess my ballot's going back just marked for Tait and Cushman.

Do know that some of their programs involve support for kids and their shooting.
My team just received shells for the kids to be able to keep shooting (ammo costs add up quick, some cant afford it + entry into competitions etc).

They don’t fundraise based on the marksmanship and safety programs.

Where does all the money they raise specifically for “save the 2nd right now” go?

Here is a summary of their mission statement-The NRA’s mission statement, summarized from its bylaws, is: "To protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, especially with reference to the inalienable right of the individual American citizen guaranteed by such Constitution to acquire, possess, collect, exhibit, transport, carry, transfer ownership of, and enjoy the right to use arms." The statement also includes a focus on promoting public safety, training in the safe and efficient handling of small arms, hunter safety, and shooting sport promotion.

I think they are failing to live up to their stated mission.

Well, my ballot finally came today. Right now, my leading candidate is the same one I vote for every time -- me, by write-in. I'm open to suggestions as to anyone who is clearly a defender of liberty. No Fudds, no Sunshine Patriots, and no 'Unknowns' will appear with me on my ballot. I've consistently voted the same way for decades. Sadly, the ballot choices have never been very difficult for me. Eff the NRA and Eff Pepe LaPewerre.

Another NRA life member here. and I want to make my votes count also. Watching this thread for further info.
Me too! Sadly, it seems that most of the responders to this thread are just using it as a format to vent. Very few have actually put forth a name. I don't know the people running and need some suggestions as to which 31 to vote for! I'll keep watching and hoping for more useful info. Big thank you to those that have actually put forth a name. Maybe giving out eight (8) names of those NOT to vote for would be helpful and send a message? That doesn't seem like too much to ask for.
I don't particularly like the way the NRA is run either, but it is still another organization that can influence politicians. That can't be a bad thing. I prefer to express my preferences by where I contribute my $, not whether or not I vote.

I get ur point but should we not care when they influence politician to pass red flag laws. Exhaust that’s exactly what they have done. They supported red flag laws. It’s a real problem. I just tend to think they r too far gone to be useful and might need to dissolve. I that’s tough but GOA and other orgs are doing better. Thanks
