I dont give a written response on all of my tests, not even most, but I do some.
What I find is some students use the opportunity to tell everything about history they know...even if it's not the right time.
I mean Ive had stuff DECADES either behind or AHEAD written about random topics. It's quite something.

Parked next to this guy. Saw the sticker. Thought "Wonder who he pissed off to put a sticker right in front of the driver blocking their view?" Thinking it was a "You can't park worth a F!" kind of sticker..
