The ARF HT forum has a few mentions of this place so I figured I'd check it out.
I'm Tim, and I now live in Matthews NC. I just officially sold my house in Illinois yesterday, severing the last tie (other than my remote employment) with the People's Republik of Madiganistan. I used to post on the Illinois Carry Forum as TRJ, and I post a little on ARF in GD as timfoilhat. I was quite involved in fighting for 2nd amendment rights in Illinois, my latest accomplishment was completing research that contributed to stalling Fix the FOID legislation that hopes to fingerprint every legal gun owner in the state. That bill may yet pass, but it's been on the shelf since May 2019. A site admin from IL Carry said good bye to me by stating that NC just gained one heck of an asset.
I just signed up yesterday for GRNC. I'm heading off on Saturday to attend the membership meeting at CRPC.
I'm married. I have a dog. No kids. I'm into all types of guns and as I tell my wife I just need one more before I'm done buying them. For some inexplicable reason I want a Mini 14. Yes, I grew up watching the A Team never shoot anybody.
Looking forward to making some friends who have things in common.

Welcome! We are willing to take you in and make you an honorary Southerner as long as you say grits are better than cream of wheat, learn to love Bojangles, and don't bring Illinois politics here to NC.

After 16 years in the South....I still love me some Cream O' Wheat.

Tim,

Welcome to the CFF Family!!

I did stop at Bojangles for a chicken sandwich last week when driving into town. It's pretty darn good.
I'm a libertarian at heart who votes Republican. I've spent more time trying to stop evil Illinois democrats from being successful than I did working at a full time job. No, that's not an exaggeration.

Welcome from up the road and thru the woods in Midland. I hear tell there's big deer in Illinois, but the only thing I'm familiar with is the identity theft from Chicagoland area that's hit me twice in the last 12 months :D

my wife born and lived in Elgin, IL so I guess you will be OK

Welcome to CFF enjoy the forum

are you one-oh-them damn community organizers?

Just playing around. Welcome aboard. Sounds like we recruited yet more talent from The North. Glad to have you fighting on our side here, where you might be able to make a difference, rather than wasting your time and skills up there.

Somebody say Grits? Oh. We have a fresh one. Grits are best with butter and salt. Keep that sugar for yer coffee.

Tim you best like Dukes Mayonnaise.

They'll ask you which is best topping on banana pudding. I ain't got a dog in that fight.

Now all is in jest.

This, as you will find out, is the best damn group of deplorables there are. Once you get to know us this will be the place you hang out on the web. No reason to go anywhere else. And.....

Welcome. What part of Illinois?
The "bad" part?
I lived in western Dupage County. It used to be a solid red kind of place, but the locusts from Chicago multiplied and spread out. I was outnumbered and my vote didn't matter.

Want to hear a good one? My property taxes used to be 10, 700 for a 4 bed, 2.5 bath 2100 sf house on a 1/3rd acre. That state is so freaking broken that it's going to make Detroit look like a model of prudence.

I'm pretty deplorable myself so I'm sure I'm in the right place. :)

Hello from Scotland County! I have cousins in Carbondale, so I like you already!

+It's Hellman's mayo, btw....
I bet your cousins have SIU stories. I partied there when I was a senior in high school (about 30 years ago). Went with friends to visit his brother who stayed in the TKE house. Holy Christmas did we have a crazy weekend. Somebody ghost rode a motorcycle off the roof of a frat house, I woke up taped to a sofa, I saw a guy trip on mushrooms and run straight through a sliding glass door head first, saw some chick being hit by her drunk boyfriend, same chick later decided to hit on me and I stupidly told her I was still in HS...good god the memories. It was summerfest (?) weekend, so the whole town seemed to go a little nutty.

My cousins are in their 80s, but I'll ask then when they come here in the spring what kinds of stuff they got up to!
Edit: a lot of the stuff you've described sounds like my youth in the 70s, though! Good times!
