Hi all,
Attending my first rimfire 2 gun match this coming weekend at the DRPC with my BIL.

Running a ruger Mk4 22/45 and a 10/22. Both are currently running irons but with my extremely nearsightedness I need to put some kind of optic on the rifle. When shooting irons all I can see is the rear of the receiver. Even corrected my eye sight is 20/40 in one eye and 20/60 in the other. I’ve always had to run scope on all my rifles. I’ve got some 2x scopes but I’m worried that might still be narrow of a view for this fast paced shooting style.

Is there something sub $100 I can get for now and then later on get a nice holosun or Burris fastfire? Open to suggestions

I have used Primary Arms red dots at many 2 gun matches at DRPC and they are reliable and work great and are under $100.

The Bushnell TRS25 is also good to go for plinking and 2 gun matches.

Congrats on first match. It's a super fun match and ran by good people. I think you will enjoy it.
Maybe just a bright fiberoptic sight set will help enough to get started?

Shoot limited/iron division. While out there have a close look at optics people are using and ask questions. Everyone is friendly and would likely let you try whatever you want. Then pick a red dot you like. Red dots in rimfire challenge: about as much fun as you can have with a gun, imo.

These dudes are some of the top shooters out there (there are many more), maybe they will chime in.

Bushnell TRS-25 is a great opinion for being on a budget. I have had one that has probably been on around seven or eight fire arms and it still works.
But honestly if you could save up just a little bit more I would highly recommend a Vortex Venom 6 moa.
The vortex you can normally find for under 200 and they come with a lifetime warranty, like you could literally run it over with your pick up truck and they would cover it.

Personally I would run irons and check out everyone else’s setups to see what fits you and what you like. I have always loved CMores with a 12 moa dot. A lot of others run Vortex. Both of them are majority what you will see out there. You cannot go wrong either way.

Just have fun and enjoy yourself! Super nice people and fun to shoot with.

I’ve got some pistols with Cmores. Also have rifles with Cmores. You are welcome to try them out. We practice for 2 gun rimfire almost every Sunday afternoon near Siler City. I’ve also got a Vortex Razor somewhere for sale. It’s a fancier version of the Venom.

The Cmore is my choice because I have a stigmatism. It has less distortion when it comes to the dot itself for my eyes.

I’d get a cheap $40 red dot off Amazon and go for it. It’s just a .22, so if you’re careful with it you should be fine with a cheap optic. It’s not necessary to spend a lot of money. A red dot and maybe a trigger upgrade down the road is all most folks really need. Of course that doesn’t mean we don’t buy all sorts of doodads in the hopes it makes us faster.

The TRS-25 is a great choice. I also used a Primary Arms red dot for a long time on my 15-22.

A red dot makes everything easier because it takes things from three sight planes down to two. Speeds things up a bit. I’ll look around and see if I have an extra red dot laying around somewhere. Used to know where my old Primary Arms dot went. If I can find it and the mount, you can use it. Finding it will be the tough part.

Edited to add: must have given away that red dot already.

Hi Cris, by chance are you shooting this Sat? I’m pretty sure I saw your name in squad two. I’m also in that squad as well as my BIL. First match for both of us. Thanks for the recommendation on the Bushnell and Vortex. I’m going to try and pick up something inexpensive before the weekend. If I enjoy it which I’m sure I will then a vortex will be ordered.

Appreciate the link to the fiber optic sights. Sounds crazy but my eye sight is so near sighted I really can’t see a set of irons on a rifle. Fiber or not. Been that way since a kid. All my eye can see is the rear of the receiver. I’ve always run magnified scopes because of this.

Thanks for tagging all these guys!

Really appreciate the reply as well and thanks for the offer even though you couldn’t find that red dot. Going to pick something up before Friday so I can sight it in. Most likely a TRS25 or similar.
