I thank you for the details!30-40 minutes either walk or bike gets me about 2.5 miles walk and about 8-10 miles bike. Diet for me was eliminating the obvious carbs. No potato or pasta sides but not worrying about the carbs in vegetables or a thin breading in chicken occasionally. No more sodas, just water and two cups of coffee in the morning. I will have a pour of bourbon in the evening though. My body still produces insulin or I would still need to be on it. I was able to find what works for my body though.
I think most important has been consistency. Smaller portions of food even if it means eating more often to maintain energy and sugar levels. And exercising daily. It is easy to find any reason not to do it and I am certainly not a fitness junky by any means. I used to say if you see me running you better run faster than me because something big is chasing me. I was told by the dietician that diabetes is managed three ways: diet, exercise, and medication. Pick two. My father was dead by 55 because he didn’t manage his diabetes well. I am determined to see my children grow up.
Sorry for the derail...and now back to your regularly scheduled hernias.
On that note, I thought I was good to go a few days after the surgery and tried exercising again. DON’T DO IT! Ease back into anything strenuous, it took me about 2 1/2 weeks before I was walking my 2.5 miles again and just now almost 4 weeks before I am back up to pace.
edit to add: the 4 am wake up is because I am too likely to make excuses at the end of the day when I am already tired or have other things that need doing. I have always been a morning person and it just comes a little earlier now.
This week I’m heavier than I’ve ever been, just walked a quick 1/3 mile, at 54 I’m surprised that 10lbs doesn’t fall off by skipping a couple meals in a week.
