$10,000 oil filter

Not a silencer it's a solvent trap to keep the cleaning chemicals out of the environment.
Yep...right up until you pull the trigger the first time.

That’s the discussion I’ve had with quite a few people at gun shows. Seems that minor point never gets shared by the people working the oil filter booths.

Jury nullification. No victim so there’s no crime. And once again a prime example of cops enforcing unconstitutional gun laws.
He plead guilty, so no jury. It’ll be interesting to see the sentence.

He should not have a "next time" as a felon.
John,

criminals don't follow laws. Now that they've created a felon, I think he can do what he wants from now on :D

Well, after parole anyhow. That's the trend nowadays. Govco makes rules on victimless crimes, people become criminals, then criminals learn more in prison how to crime better, then voila, we get more people walking around criming

So after reading this article and some the responding posts I had a question pop into my head.

Most gun owners I believe would agree that this law is stupid and serves no purpose but to create criminals. There is no victim here. If that is the case and the general community agrees that this law is pointless, why does the community continue to follow them? Why don’t we all screw an oil filter onto our threaded barrels?

I'd say paying a $200 tax for exercising a right is a pretty good excuse.
Well put, Wish it wasnt that way either. But for the purposes of avoiding trouble, the tax stamp work will work until something changes.

A suppressor is fun and useful. I can get one in a few months for a couple hundred bucks. Not worth the risk associated with fighting it. If there is significant noncompliance I’ll participate, but don’t expect me to lead, too much to lose.

Has anyone argued that the tax stamp descriminates against poor folks?

It'd be an easy argument.

Wasn't that why the $200 value was decided upon in the first place?

It would allow only those back in the 30's who could afford the extra $200 to own one of those items. By that justification, poor folks with only a few dollars to their name were automatically not able to "legally" own on of those items.

Hmmm... who had an extra $200 during Prohibition?

Would that be normal law abiding citizens that, say, wanted to hunt without hearing damage or bothering the neighbors as much? Nope

Correct, I dont remember where I saw it but if the nfa theft tax would have kept up woth inflation it would be arlund 1500.00 today.

I wanted to make a Suppressor, so I paid my tax and waited 12 days, but I remember when form 1's were taking a year.

A lot of "We Will Not Comply" and "molṑn labé" people are only keyboard-brave.

OR

2) People have decided this is not the hill to plant your flag and die on.

.

Or:

3) Most people are smart enough not to admit to a felony on a public forum?

Depending on the source you check, the average annual income was between $1500-$2000. So a $200 tax made it financially impossible for most people.

I love the eBay “Check whether this part fits your vehicle” at the top of the page.

The thinking means version of a solvent trap. Dont buy it with your PayPal account lol
Or get the stamp first.

Purchase away, I did. My process for a form one
1. Purchase solvent trap
2. Submit for 1
3. Get approval.
4. Get tube engraved
5. Drill holes
Its not hard, just be smart.

That's what I told my buddy when I sent him the link. He was talking about how sketchy it seemed and how the purchase will be tracked from there to here, etc.

I told him I was more worried about actually receiving the product than I was being flagged.

You buy it. File. Get the stamp. Finish it.

What's the problem?

Was it legal to hunt on his own land in residential area?

Government regulates noise on machinery, ear protections in some factories, and mufflers are added to cars. But I have to pay a tax and registration to protect my hearing? Plain dumb. Where is OSHA when you really need them?

That seems really cheap. I’m tempted to try one as a dedicated rim fire can. After getting a stamp, of course.

it's definitely cheap compared to the Wix 4003 or the Napa filter then buying a thread adapter then ripping the guts out then finding baffles and spacers and on and on and on. That's why I never went that route or the Maglite form 1.

These really should be big enough for up to 22 mag maybe 22 TCM. Don't think I wouldn't try it on an 5.56 pistol though ;)

I bought a couple trap kits recently, but about 3X that price. But these have two SS cones, four Ti cones, and all the spacers are Ti. Tube and ends are Al. 6”x1-1/8”, weighs 4.3oz before the holes are drilled.

Waiting on two 1.25” diameter kits now.

The seller has some bigger diameter, but still all aluminum. Wonder how well hi-temp cerakote would work on aluminum cones......... I know it works pretty damn well on pistons that see combustion temps well over 1500F

I used C-Series on my first half dozen F1 cans. Not sure if the Piston Coating is different than their “normal” C-series?

Even though it may hold up to the internal engine temps, I’m not sure it would hold up to the sand-blasting effect of muzzle blast. All I did was spray the outside of mine.
