Did anyone here participate in the 13 Colonies Event? How did you do?
I had tons of trouble with 20M, my antenna isn't in the best situation right now and the bands just didn't cooperate.
I did manage to get the clean sweep on digital and SSB Voice, but I missed out on the France bonus on both and the GB bonus on SSB Voice.

Just to remind anyone who may be interested in participating this year, the 13 Colonies event runs from July 1st to July 7th. It is a lot of fun and quite challenging.
The theme this year is the signers of the Declaration of Independence, you contact one station from each of the original colonies to get a full sweep and earn the certificate, there are also one extra bonus station from Great Britain and France.
Check out the website for more info if you are interested. There is also a bookface group for the contest, just search for 13 Colonies Special Event.

I like this one as well. The only contest I usually work. Unfortunately I only have Saturday after 2:00 to work it. Will be at the beach with my son's family the next week.

I’ve heard it in the past, when I has my HF setup in HP, but not recently. If you’re into paper chasing, it would be a fun one.

my rotor died (all antennas pointed straight north) and my main 40 meter antenna is off line, and I am in the middle of a large home improvement project, with scaffolding all around the west and north sides of the house

still, just at random I got K2B on CW using my basement backup station, it's left on all the time, on 7030, and the guy was calling right there ... yes, I know, he probably should not have been on 7030 but maybe he doesn't know ...

I have made 13 Colonies sweeps in the past, perhaps again in the future

@JW1987 , what mode(s), rig & antenna?

K2B on right now, 7030, loud

I am tempted to go see who I can hear on my own, besides this guy, no spots ...

I have a lab599 discovery tx500 10w transceiver and was using a 49:1 endfed halfwave with a 40m radiator, similar to a packtenna. I also used an mx-p50 amplifier. It cruises right along about 25-30w running off my battery. Conditions have been bad enough I consider 20-30w qrp on sideband. I only worked a couple on ft8 but went back and worked them on voice when they were on. Ft8 is cheating haha.

I got on a couple of times and the pile-ups were so deep I gave up after trying for a short while. I stayed on the radio, and made a few good contacts (even my first New Zealand contact) but didn't pursue any 13 Colonies folks.
It's cool that there were that many folks doing it. It sure sounded like a successful event.

Stuff like that brings out the lids for sure. Bunch of people that have no clue how to operate. It can leave a bad taste in your mouth. I enjoyed trying to bust the pileups, you have to be on your game to get through all the noise from everyone else.
