I'll try to get some pics once I finish cleaning all the oil and grease off. It's sitting disassembled right now.

I picked up an 1895 Chilean Mauser today for $275 and I'm wondering how I did. This one is not a converted 7.62 nato, but the original 7x57.
It's got a mismatched bolt handle but the rest seems matching. I would rate it lower end of good, with some bluing loss on the exposed barrel past the upper handguard and some stains and a couple small dings on the stock. The stock still has the 1895 cartouche. Bore is slightly pitted but has strong lands and grooves. Rifle is marked "Loewe Berlin" and there are a ton of little stamps and proofs just about everywhere on the rifle.

I picked up the exact same rifle a while back but the stock was sporterized (cut down) for $200. I would say that's a pretty good price, not an all out steal but a good buy. Have had a bit of a struggle picking up reasonably priced 7mm ammo for it though.

Here's one online sale: Interesting that another that was converted to 308 in the 50's sold on this same site at $450.00. I also picked up a very similar 7mm Spanish Mauser that had been sporterized as well for $120 at a yard sale about 6-8 years ago.

    OH AND PICTURES OF COURSE!!

CHILEAN Model 1895 Mauser bolt-action infantry rifle # D845 (7x57) mfg. by Loewe in 1895. Excellent condition, with 90% original deep bluing on all metal parts. Chilean crest above chamber is weak but clear. All-matching numbers (except cleaning-rod, #2474). Bore is very strong and mirror-bright. Lovely walnut stock has original finish with clear Marina Federal cartouche, quite a few of the expected handling-marks, scuffs and scratches. Not import-marked. PHOTOS . . . $395. Antique, no FFL required SOLD

Fair price for both parties. Very smooth guns and usually very accurate. You will enjoy it.

Forgot to ask - what serial number block? OVS marked on it anywhere?

"D" serial prefix. No OVS number.

Bummer. OVS markings are extra cool. I have an OVS marked gun converted to .308.

Finished cleaning it and put it back together. The upper handguard is a slightly different shade than the rest of the stock and it makes my OCD itch.

Tell your OCD that way back when nobody cared if the handguard was a slightly different shade than the rest of the stock.
