1911 magwell recommendation

What I have for a lower profile/carry and accommodating my preference for arched MSH is a Smith and Alexander.

I think most USPSA guys run either TechWell or Dawson Ice. Techwell has an option for every situation I think, but you have to use their grips.

Smith and Alexander.

They are old school. No web orders, you just call S&A direct. Tell them which gun you want it for as the proprietor, Alan Smith is a wealth of info. I think he invented magwells and used to make them for Colt.

Their website is 19 years old, literally, so they have more than is on the website. Or you can order on line at places like Brownells.

They used to be cast but they are phasing those out and now machined from billets. The old style cast ones dropped right in a Colt and a Springfield, but the new machined ones are a smidge larger for "better fit" per my discussion with him, which might require some fitting on certain guns.

I talked to Alan Smith for 30 minutes yesterday (hard not to as he talks more than even me) to share this with him and he's checking specs on the new ones to see if he needs to have the machine program adjusted a tad for the best fit across the broadest number of the brazillion manufacturers of 1911s.

I have an STI Spartan. Great gun. I use Smith and Alexander. I like the one piece design. Solid magwell.
How was the fit? Did you need to modify anything, or did it just drop in?
And how recently was it purchased. The machined does fit different than the previous cast as referenced above.

Funny story. The magwell was bought and installed on a Kimber Pro Carry II. It had even been blended for the Kimber. I bought it and installed it. Fit is good, no issues. I was running it in IDPA matches at the time. I also have one that I purchased for a Springfield. Very pleased with there products. And the person I dealt with at S&A was very helpful and friendly.

If it was a man, I believe it was the guy who invented the mag well, Alan Smith, and if it was a woman, I suspect it was his wife but I'm not positive.
