What would you consider to be a good trigger break on a farting around 1911 with 3 dot sights.

Comp type gun 3 to 3 1/2lbs ... carry gun 4 1/2 to 5 lbs ... and as Ikarus said crisp break will little takeup and as little overtravel as possible.

No less than 4lbs on a crisp trigger break works for me. The problem with a good trigger is getting it to repeat the same every time. Nothing worst than a trigger breaking light one time and the next pull is a strain. Find a gunsmith that knows the ins and outs of the disconnector.

Just measured mine on a Lyman digital gauge. With 8 pulls it averaged 3 pounds 4.8 oz. That is with me holding the gun and pulling. Hard a smith do a trigger job on it a few years back. They put (suppose to) STI trigger kit in there. For some reason it does not have a trigger stop screw. After dinner I am going to check it again.

4-4.5 for me

My carry guns are 5 so anything way lighter than that doesn't work well for me

A man from Savannah knows southerners eat SUPPER at night and dinner at noon. Lunch is a Yankee contrivance. Ever see a picture of Jesus at The Last Dinner?

I like mine to all be within spitting distance of 4 lbs in the best of all possible worlds. I don't shoot a lot of competitions because I am a not very good at them and because I don't like to embarrass myself so I setup all of my guns with the potential of using them for self defense. For me the most important part of a trigger is consistency. I can live with 1911 trigger north of 4.5lb but less than 5lb if it breaks clean the same way everytime. This allows you to "know" your gun so you can "run" your gun. It does not matter if it is a 1911 or another platform clean break and consistency win the day for me.

Dinner and supper has always been a rural/farming thing in all parts of the country; it is not and has never been exclusively a southern thing. Dinner was the main meal of the day, and on the farm it was eaten midday. The main meal slipped to the evenings in urban areas, so dinner replaced supper, the lighter evening meal, and caused the creation of a light midday meal which became known as lunch.

I suck at trivia, but my head is full of crazy stuff.

I love that kind of trivia. I wonder what the reasoning was for the change, like the increase in urban 9-5 jobs?

Defensive guns need to be 4.5 and a target gun can be as low as it will hold and not double when fired.

BEWARE: Of the over travel screw on a defensive gun, it will cause problems when you can least afford it....

Sorry, yes, back on topic. My triggers feel just like it would if you took your finger and pushed on a table top. Almost nothing other than "click".

I liken this to many things in life...if you don't know it won't matter.

Honestly, this is one reason I have tried not to concentrate too much energy on knowing all the best trigger pulls. I know “good, kinda good, it’s ok,and wow that sucks”. I don’t get into pounds and stuff. I could imagine my OCD would go crazy if I thought too much on it

1911s are good
CZs are kinda good
Glocks are ok
Ruger LCPs suck
