1st bobcat

That's a right nice specimen! I'm guessing you'll have it mounted?

Thanks! If I had the extra funds I probably would have but I got quoted $400-700 at 3 different places and I just can’t do that right now. Getting it turned into a “rug” @$40. The guy called it a “wet tan”. I’m typically a meat hunter and this is my first taxidermy type experience. Too beautiful to not preserve it somehow. I’m thinking it will look nice on the wall of the gun room.

Jealous here...... Only hunting that gets me excited is predator hunting. Nice cat.

Where, what caliber, range...details man, we need details.

Really good looking bobcat.

No, no plans to eat it.

Not far from 95/74 junction in Rob Co. Plain Jane PSA 556 AR w ACT trigger, running Hornady American Whitetai.223 55gr SP, danger close.... 20 yrds or so. All happened very quickly that close. Popped out slinking across the lane. Man they are hype aware!!! Rifle was already propped up in that direction and required almost no movement. I swear it heard me turn my head. Still a clean shot though. Round entered above right shoulder and exited under left shoulder. DRT. I’m typically a 30 cal hunter and wouldn’t have taken the chance on blowing it apart if that’s what I was using. Used the 223 all year and nothing has walked away from POI. May be the standard going forward for the size game is see around here. Minimal meat loss on venison and minimal damage to pelt on the predators.

Pelt in the wall is the plan. Who knows a mount costs so much. I guess it’s a pretty intensive process.

nice kitty. Funny that in all my time in the woods I have heard them but never seen them. I have caught my 10lb housecat stalking the field multiple times on cam, does that count?

I saw white fur movement out of the corner of my eye one time in the deer stand. Threw up the rifle to look through the scope and saw the neighbor's long haired cat. I let him walk.

Nice bobcat. I'd have shot too.

I think the word you were looking for was cougar.

As a former cougar hunter, I'd be inclined to agree. Lol! However, I have read a few times that mountain lions are supposed to be good eatin'. Dunno if that applies to bobcats as well, but you can bet that if I ever harvest one, I will find out. I was raised by grandparents that were kids during the Depression, so there ain't much I won't try once.

I’ve had both and if you like a salty ham steaks texture and taste, you like wild cats.
Cougar is one of my top 3 favorite meats.

This is absolutely amazing to me. I would never have expected people to tell me that eating an actual mountain lion was tasty.

That thing is cute.

We had a lady riding horse in the lighted arena at our place tell us she saw one one night. Overhead lights were on and it was hanging out on the top board on the fencing watching her. She spooked a little and took the horse back up to the barn. The next evening, it was out in the ring again. She didn't ride in there that time. I went out the next day and set up game cams and hung out with my FLIR and didn't see a thing. Honestly, I wasn't sure what size those things are. Thanks for posting the pic.

thanks for posting.
never shot at one.
seen several, but they all looked "crippled" to me.
small hind legs with a up-and-down sort of trot.

I was talking to a buddy the other day. Of all the time I've spent in the woods I've only seen 2 of them. One in SC scouting for turkeys, he was actually hunting me. Guess I was the biggest turkey he had ever seen and decided to not mess with me. The other was in Cataloochee Valley. My wife saw one in Smokemont Campground. He snuck into camp and ate my salsa.

Well..... to prevent yearling/duck predation I guess I should treat them as I do yotes and shoot them all on sight....

Judge away. I’m happy with it.

Just now saw this thread. Nice cat you bagged there. Yep. Adult Bobcats do not really have any predators other than humans, so there's nothing wrong at all taking one when the opportunity presents itself. That's too bad you couldn't get it mounted. Although it's a bit small, it still would have made for a nice display.
