1st range day with the new gun 5-2-19.

Years and years ago, I was working at a gun shop down there in Florida where we had an indoor gun range. The Glock 17 showed up on the market and up for sale.. Since I was already a 1911 guy, I had NO interest in a plastic gun ( Even tho years before that, I used the M-16 and trusted it) No sir, no Glock for me. Hated even handing it to someone to check out. Fast forward a few years , Im still competing in IPSC and the Glock storm is taking over. Still not for me. Fast forward 30 years, I'm still clutching my 1911 thinking its still the greatest thing since sliced bread. Friend of mine shows up at the range with a new M&P 9 and the Springfield XD, tells me " these are great" I try them and walk away unimpressed. Shortly after, I acquire a Glock 19 Gen 3 in a trade. I only bought it because I knew I could sell it quick and get what I wanted. I owned it for a week, hated even looking at it. Decided to go see if it even worked, so I dug up some 9mm ammo that I had stashed 20 years ago and gave it a try. One Magazine load later I understood what the Glock " Thing" was all about.. This thing was awesome, fit my hand right , shot straight with instant point of aim. Right then and there I realized that I had been depriving myself of a fine firearm because of my addiction to the 1911. I already had the 19 sold and told myself that there was a Glock 17 in my future. Few years later, I recently decided to convert to 9MM for competition use.. Didnt take me but a few minutes to decide what to buy..... Another 1911, this time in 9 MM and its great. Guess its like a AA meeting where you say " Hi everyone, my name is Lager and I am a 1911 addict"
Maybe some day I can change.

Maybe some day I can change.
You don't have to change. LoL. You can have the 1911s and Glocks too...why not?

I get the 1911 thing, I really do, and mine (assuming RIA can work a miracle and fix it) will be doing competitions with me in the fall, I'm sure. I love that gun, I don't care that it can't handle a lot of shooting!
I also love my Glock, it shoots well for me. It will do everything I need it to do.
Why shouldn't we be able to have it all?

The RIA can handle tons of shooting. I am sure they will fix it and I don't think it will take a miracle.

The RIA couldn't handle a lot of shooting, since it folded up and packed it in at a few thousand rounds.....that's NOT a ton of shooting, to me! Lol.
I hope they can fix it, I really want it to be a great gun again like it was for the first few hundred rounds.

Glad you had a good range day Millie. Now you just need to pick up a few more mags for competition, couple of holsters and tons of ammo :)

CD
I have a holster which may work for competition, and I got 3 magazines with the gun, so I may only need 1 more.
I've been in touch w/ Chief Jason about an IWB holster already, and maybe another for competitions if the one I have doesn't work out.
I'm slowly getting it together.

Millie, I had an RIA 1911 FS in 9mm with the same sorts of problems you reported. I sent it back to them. 10 days later they sent me a replacement. It apparently was easier or cheaper to send a new one than fix mine. In addition, they cleaned it and tuned it and fired a lot of test rounds. That was 5 years ago. Today the gun runs like it's new and has yet to have a malfunction.
RIA has great customer service.

The replacement idea is what's giving me fits!

I want my personal 1911 back, not another gun...I know it's silly, but I got attached to it. It's my first 1911, and I want the one I bought to be sent back in good working order....lol.

However, I do want a gun that actually works, so I know they'll do what they have to do. And so will I.

Glock 19 was my first pistol. I’ve tried a lot of the others but I always come back to G19. I’ve owned about 5 or 6 at least at this point. It just does what I need so well.

Millie, I really GET your attachment to the 1911. I still have my first, and although it doesn't get as much use (it's a full size), it will be with me for sentimental reasons. Just wait till you get the "itch" for a rifle...hahaha. I still shoot a 1911, and had the opportunity to shoot both. I shot the rifle and transitioned to the 1911 one handed. Enjoy your new Glock, try everything that is offered, and never stop learning! Proud of you, gal.

I'm really hoping not to want a rifle! I've shot a couple, and so far so good, don't really need one. LOL. I did like shooting them though.

My 1911 will hopefully come home all "healed," and ready to hit the competition circuit in the fall!

As for the G19, I'm loving it. And I love it when people hand me guns to try! I learn stuff from everyone I run across.

There's 3 gun competition Millie, handgun, rifle and shotgun! :) I'm tired and calling it a night. Just inspected and gaged 110 weapons today, repaired a few too.

Wow, that's a lot of guns in a day!
Sleep well!

I feel the need to egg you on....

Get yerself a .22LR and find a place to bench shoot. Sitting and shooting. It's a beautiful thing. Very relaxing. There are several inexpensive options.

I bought a .22LR Marlin Model 60 because while I was waiting for PPP's and CHP, all I had to take to the range was my shotgun. That's expensive and boring indoors.

Now I have a few and am looking to add another. I want a bolt gun to round out the inexpensive .22 rifle collection.

Somehow an AR made it into my safe as well. .223 Wylde is a .22, right?

Be careful though, they seem to multiply, and I don't "need" a single one of them. I love them. Fun and cheap to shoot for those times when maybe you just want to have fun and not "work" on anything. Once they're zeroed, it's cake!

I did enjoy the one with the red dot I shot at B.Oaks recently. AR9? The dot was fantastic! The front of the rifle was a tad heavy, but so was the 1911 9mm when I first got it, and I got stronger, so.....
But you need to stop egging me on, I have one expensive hobby already, so shhhhhh.....lol.

.22LR's are light, and bench rests take care of balance, tired sore arms, etc.

PCC's are the bomb! It's not a bad idea to be able to dip out of the same ammo bucket

Old eyes like mine like the dots for sure when it comes to quick shooting I've got one on my AR. Another one on a Ruger 10/22 in a folding stock.

.22lr can save you a bundle on ammo for range use. Trigger time is trigger time & the fundamentals don't change just 'cos yer shootin' a rimfire. No matter which 'big boy' guns I'm shooting at the range, I always warm up with the appropriate .22. Lets me dust off the cobwebs, focus on fundamentals & get my mind right before I start sending the expensive bullets downrange.
