Daughter lost her keys over the weekend, only had one key... so no spare.

Was impossible to get a mobile locksmith to come out at 10pm on a Saturday night

USAA roadside assistance towed it to the Ford dealership closest to us, dealership says they don't have information past 10 years to be able to cut a key, let alone program it to actually start the car.

She's calling around to different locksmiths currently.

Any ideas?

This is an expensive life lesson for her... told her months ago to make spare key🤣

Call a local shop and explain what happened. Usually they know of someone around who can cut and program for her.

Surprised the Stealership said no. Do you have the original key tag from purchase with the code?

Worst case would be a new ignition cylinder and new door lock cylinder. I know for a fact those can be bought online and YOU can put them in, and they come with keys.

Even if you could get a key made the cost of a fob and programming would be over $500. Then you know you need 2 so, heck no for me. Our Prius spare fob key was lost and I was not going to pay that.

Buy a new cylinder and key off the inner webber and then a door lock and key.

Change out the ignition lock where you put the key in?

Having to rekey the whole car is an option.... an expensive one

I doubt that she does....
Apparently Ford doesn't keep key info past ten years

Same information from multiple dealers

This is what I call a teachable moment.... 😂

I told her months ago to get another key made....

Can you get a ignition switch and key to lower the cost out of a junk yard?

Probably. She has a locksmith at the dealership now who supposedly has the code to cut the key... we'll see.

Check the owner manual, should be a card or sticker with the key code, even if she got it used worth a try. Real key or the FOB?

I am glad it’s not a key synced to the ability to start. That was not my situation. I have 4 sets of keys for my work vehicles. I keep one set hid outside at a strange location if I lock myself out and need to call mid day someone while the wife is working. Matter of fact it’s 4 sets for truck bins, fence lock, house keys, and ladder racks. Whatever is on my main set is on all of them except my golf club locker. That locker is only one key and has punished me as I picked up the wrong keys and missed my tee time.

I'm not sure about getting the key cut. But programming a fob is no big deal. I ordered two for momma off ebay, program instructions online. You did have to have a key to do it, however.

Nothing in the manual after they got it open.... it's real key with a fob.

It has a transponder in the key linked to the ECM

Well the locksmith was able to make a base key from the VIN, reprogram her keyless entry door code and cut a new key fob.....took Ford and the locksmith both to get the key to work so that it actually started her car, only took till 3pm. 😂
