2018 Competitive Shooting Goals

We could practice neeked though, right?

2018
Limited A is really close (6% away), get halfway to M by this time next year

FROM 2017, Id say goal accomplished
“Goal-get to B class by the summer and A or dang close by this time 2017”

Made A class this week, Look out M, the freight train is coming down the hill

Missed IDPA master last year. I have it in my sights again this year, and actually tried practicing the classifier this time! Novel idea... I've done two practice sessions going through it 5 times each. Hit master 1/5 in the first session, and 3/5 in the second. Hoping to make it soon.

Question for you USPSA guys...how does IDPA Master compare to USPSA rankings? Never shot it.

Dude, dry fire all day till March 10 and ride with me to the classifier match
I would like to, but the weekend before Im going to KY for a 3 gun match. I gotta take it easy for a little while so the wife gets used to me being home on the weekends

Shot an 88% classifier at the sectional yesterday which will easily bump me over the mark and into A class. Wasn’t sure I was going to make it with the addition of little man to the family and school kicking my butt.

Good job stickin' with it and meeting that goal!!

Did I have a goal?

Made B in Pro and CO despite HQ delaying me with A flags. Gotta fastest kid on the short bus award as I left C in CO.

Felt like I improved after my spring class with Stoeger, then backslid or stalled at best.

Meh.

Im right there with ya. The summer was rough on me, had 6 classifiers that didnt count from July-Nov.

Uhhg. I burned out on Limited major and put the gun away in July and concentrated on multigun.

Did have some improvements in rifle and shotgun shooting, which absolutely came from shooting USPSA pistol, funnily.
Can now load shotgun quads fairly decently. So improving on something but disappointed in my pistol.

Was gonna sell my limited gun and go to carry optics. My eyes are failing me. But I think I'll make another run at Major.
My new years resolution is going to be setting some real goals and holding myself more accountable.

From an old competitor...Surround yourself with people who Want to see You do good. Always keep in the front lobe, I Will Not Be A Turd Sucker. Positivity is an amazing tool.
Lotta truth. There's a couple accomplished shooters I like squadding with because I get genuine criticism delivered in the one for one format all the supervisor courses recommend: this was good, this could improve. Staying positive is still a mystery.

The great Ray Chapman, World IPSC Champion eventually started teaching after Cooper opened Gunsite. Chapman would watch shooters on the line and walk to them and go into great detail as to what he wanted them to do to improve. One on one with the Master. He would then walk off a ways and look back to see if you implemented the things he had talked to you about. If not....he never spoke to you again. He was a hard man....most of those old Masters were.

Made my goal! Hit IDPA Master earlier this year. Also shot the Carolina Cup in June and placed 1st SSP Master and 3rd/155 overall (PCC excluded).

Going to try to shoot two tiered matches next year. Would love to win my division at one of them.

You oughta go to Amp's SO class on Saturday at True North Range. Then you can come set up with us for the Coastal Carolina Challenge and shoot the match the day before, then spend Saturday running the match while randomly DQing billegerent shooters.

That sounds great! Unfortunately I’m busy Saturday.:-/

Great job on moving up a classification! Didn’t know you’d done that!

I used to teach billiards. It taught me a lot about people. Primarily: most people don't want to get better. They prefer to continue doing what they do. They prefer to talk about "bad luck". They prefer to whine about it. Buy new 1000$ cues and 30$ chalk. But, they prefer to keep doing the same things every night: losing.
I saw people who would play 3-5 nights a week for years, and never get better. I'd get drunk and beat them one handed with a broomstick. They thought it was "talent". It's never talent. Give them simple advice that would improve their game: they ignore it.

"Keep your head still and follow through". Doesn't seem that difficult does it? Apparently, it's impossible for some folks, lol!!

They'll happily pay you $50/hr in the hopes that they can continue doing it their way, and that you'll magically just make them better! When you don't, they'll blame you for being a bad teacher, heh.

But, it's a real joy when you have a great student. Very rewarding.

Edit: I've probably already ranted about this, haha.
