2018 IDPA Pistol Classifiers-Long and Abbreviated versions

I guess the long one is the same as before. How does this work? Do you choose which classifier you do when taking it? Or is the short one for different purposes...pre-match, or something like that?

Here you go! Went to the range for some practice and tried out the shorter classifier. Rankings seem about right, based on where I'm at. Looks like I still have work to do!

38 of 95 shooters at H2O on January 13 were unclassified. They either haven't joined IDPA yet, have no interest in joining but just like to shoot competitions, or have not had a chance to shoot a classifier. This abbreviated classifier might help remedy the third issue, if that's it. It also wouldn't keep folks from attending Tier Matches if they could classify at the event.

I’m gonna set it up Friday and see how my results compare to my current classification.

As a match director I like it for this reason:

Every year at IDPA, every match director can count on the fact there will be
competitors registered for their match needing to shoot a quick classifier so they
are eligible to compete at a sanctioned event. This is often imposed on the MD as
if it was their problem to solve and it was an imposition on clubs and MD’s to
accommodate these shooters. Setting up the 3 stage classifier and running a small
number of shooters often caused problems when clubs did not have this on their
calendar.

That was a long day for y’all last spring before the Coastal Carolina when you had to run the classifier after a match with a huge turnout.

Got eeem!

Finnaly got around to trying this out. It's actually a nice little course of fire.
Shot it 3 times with the Shield from concealment. Averaged 19.5 seconds, so matched my current classification .

Holy crap I am slow. lol

Think its going to be easy for the paper master chasers. Easy to keep shooting the 5x5 over and over until you make it.

I shot it a few times Wednesday.

I still contend that it is more challenging to move up a class for us "less accomplished" shooters than the full classifier, based on how I placed in my class the last time I shot the full classifier.

You'll burn it down.
If not, I can shoot it again, and again, and again..... Don't get me wrong, I like the concept of it not taking all day to run a classifier. I kind of like the way USPSAUPSUYT does it. Incorperate a classifier stage within a match.
