2021 Gardening Thread

I do know that fertilizer has nearly doubled since March. I paid right around $10 per 50 pound bag of 10-10-10 in the spring. As of yesterday evening, the same store had it for $18 a bag.

I should have bought my fertilizer the day I posted this, a week ago.

Went back to the same farm store this morning to buy next seasons fertilizer. Triple 10 is up $2 per 50 pound bag, making it $20/bag today.

Hard to tell if there are any greenies on it if not can it since the blossoms probably will not produce. If there are I'd keep it watered and let it run til it dies. If you see another frost coming put it under shelter.

Fall raised bed carrots. Only planted half a box. Pelletized seeds are so dang easy, no thinning.

That’s it. Time to butter this biscuit.
Chives and oregano is all that’s left.

What's going on with my bell peppers they seem a little excited for this frigid 28 degree weather tonight. Is it the buddy heater I just lit for them? Or am I talking too softly?

Really though wtf

Was thinking about starting up some seeds (indoors) this weekend or next. Too early ?

how big did the get, when did you transplant, and what planters were you using?
I used the standard little divided stuff you get from walmart for about 4 dollars apiece. Again, just standard potting soil to begin. Once they got into being "shaggy" in those little pots, I moved them into large plastic cups. Every year I plant way too many, so I gave a bunch to neighbors, family, and friends. I think I put them in the ground about the second week in March. This was too early. Late frost got a few of them. Maybe 2nd week in April this year OR a clear plastic greenhouse like cover. I will probably stagger plantings, too. I am really really missing tomatoes right about now. Good luck.

ug. i'm still trying to clear out the crud after last year's veggie patch grew out when i got covid.
times are weird to me because up in MI you didn't plant most stuff until the end of may due to late frosts. the fact that you can still grow cabbage and greens and stuff during the winter here has been COMPLETELY lost on me so far.

Yeah this was our first year to grow brassicas and stuff that were actually winter crops. They called the fall crops but down here you can grow some things almost all the way through the winter. Because of my cancer I am trying to keep a large inventory of Greens on my diet, and so I have been working with some methods of sprout cultivation.. I'm pretty excited about the kale

Slightly off topic, but ... Kale Salad Recipe. A coworker made this for a pot luck lunch and it was wonderful.

Code:
Kale
Sliced almonds
Craisins
Grated Manchego cheese
1 bottle Sir Kensington’s Balsamic Dijon dressing (HT and Publix have it).

I put everything together the night before, except the almonds. I add the almonds about 30 minutes before serving.

Just wanted to let you know that I made my own balsamic dijon dressing. 3/4 olive oil, 1/4 balsamic vinegar, 1/2 tsp of dijon mustard. Delightful!
