I'm interested in getting a good quality one piece cleaning rod. I need one for .22lr and 5.56 rifles.

From my research it looks like the best option is going to be a .20 cal carbon fiber rod. I would be open to something else though. I am primarily wanting it for a bolt action .22lr but I'm hoping to be able to use it for cleaning AR's as well.

Wondering if anybody has a recommendation on which one I should buy?

Thanks.

Amazon product ASIN B08949DXSTThat's a link to the one I got recently. Only been using it for 5 months but it has been working good. I've also got a couple of the 2 piece brass cleaning rods that I've epoxied together so they don't come apart while using them.

I’ve been happy with Tipton and Gunslick CF rods.

Only since you mentioned bolt action I assume maybe you are going for accuracy? When my son shot competitively everyone seemed to use this system, I guess it protects the crown, bore etc.

Another Bore Tech & Dewey vote here.

What's everyone's preference on material for rods? Carbon over coated steel?

I bought a kit from Dewey with a .20 36 inch rod. I think in the long run I would still like to upgrade to a carbon fiber rod but for now I think the Dewey will be a good place to start. Lot of good reviews and all together the kit was a really good price. I'll post some pictures of it when it shows up.

When I was shooting international style 3P rifle matches, every single competitor was using a coated Dewey rod with a plastic chamber guide and brass jags/brushes.

Quick note on M14s.
Deprime a 20 gauge shell and drill out the flash hole to fit your rod.
The 20 ga shell slips on nicely to the flashhider.

For a rod a Dewey .20 for mine … with a Bore Tech Bore Guide. But I drank the Bore Tech Koolaid and love their cleaners also. Their Rimfire Blend is a good GP cleaner for .22’s and to me their Carbon Cleaner is about the best stuff without having others noses start sniffing.
