I got a lower put together and was thinking a 20" 223 just because I have everything need to reload but have 4 other 223's in the safe. Got thinking about a 224 Valkyrie or 6.5 Grendel. Problem is new everything to get started reloading.
Just for shooting stuff out to 526 yards what would you pick? In your decision, consider the cost of the brass and bullets.
Which one has the better ballistics? Go one bit smaller, 6 CM. I think the brass might be hard to get.

THE BIGGEST ASSUMPTION I MADE IS THAT THEY ALL USE THE SAME LOWER.

6.5 Grendel will do everything you want it to, and if you want to plink cheap, Wolf makes steel 6.5 Grendel that is fine accuracy-wise.

Valkyrie is probably a reloaders' cartridge and will probably break you if you have to buy factory ammo. It has more range with less mass.

They both use the standard AR15 pattern lower.

Never shot 6.5 Grendel but I’m doing a lot with 224V right now.

You can shoot 75gr Hornady ELDs at close to 2900fps and they’re about 20 cents each...Sierra TMKs are good but too expensive IMO. If you need a little extra oomph, the 80gr ELD uses almost the same load data as the 75 and only a couple cents more per bullet

The 77gr Nosler RDFs, if they are going to get released, look promising but for now I’m done testing new bullets aside from a hunting round like 70gr TSX.

Brass life, without annealing, is looking like 5-7 firings depending on how well the brass was made. I haven’t had the loose primer pocket issue yet but I intentionally went easy on them during prep after reading it could be a problem

Once I get my favorite load and powder combo settled on, I’ll buy a bunch of Starline 224V brass and set up a cheap garage annealer

How long have you been looking for a load? I don’t think I’ve seen a video yet of anyone getting great results. Not enough for me to take the plunge. Seems most people spend their time chasing a load, only to be let down. I’m interested in the 224v, because of its ballistics, and can load fairly cheap, compared to my 6.5 and 6mm rifle rounds but the lack of accuracy puts me off. I’ve had multiple Grendel’s and all shot very well. It’s become my favorite all around cartridge.
