Im in the “build one” crowd. Makes me wish I’d bought some of those 6.8 mags on sale. Trying to figure out my parts list

AR Performance is going to have some 22" barrels soon. It looks like a decent round to shoot the heavies but with all the 6mm wildcats out there I don't know if this is going to be a fad or last a while.

Agree. I think the 6mm is the sweet spot for lighter bullets in the 6.8 case. Loved my BHW 6x6.8.

I agree with this. I already have .223 and 6.5g for longer range out of AR platform. I think a 6mm would be perfect over shooting heavier .223 pills.

Just saw this posted. There has been a good amount of discussion on other forums about optimal twist rates in 224V for those wanting to use the 90gr or higher. Seems many may be waiting to get a 1:6.5 or 1:6 twist vs 1:7. Supposedly Criterion pulled their 1:7 and will be replacing with a faster twist rate as a result of some of their testing.

The 224V out performs the Grendel based on what I’ve seen.

In my case, a 6mm is a no go if I want to suppress it. My 7.62 can is impractically heavy for the platform; I have a couple 5.56 cans that fit the bill if I ever want to suppress the 224V

I agree the 224 does outperform in BC and as a precision round. How about sectional density? I think they both the 224V and 6.5G have their nich. To me the 6mm is a happy medium between the two.

I run a SiCo Omega 30 and it is really light, my only complaint is it is long for the platform with the brake and ASR attached. I wouldn't have an issue running it with a 6mm variant.

Thanks, I’ll watch that after the weekly grocery store trip with my 3yo

I'd like to get one I just can't justify it at the moment. I've got no real use for one, considering I'm already in the process of building a 6.5cm for long range and a 20" 5.56 for practice.

I think I'll wait a year and see what the market is like then.

How come? I mean, I'm not a c/f .22 fan & it's just another hotrodded .22 in my opinion, but what's bad about it?

The whole idea behind the round is to stay supersonic past 1100yds in a AR15.

Thats the only goal of the calibers design.

You get that with a 18" 1:7.5" 6.5 Grendel. Without the loss of a barrel in 1500rnds, and the ability to stabilize the bullet.

Right now 22cf bullets above 70grn in the .224val need a 1:6" to manage the fps and range.

A jacked bullet with tip, are being spun to pieces.

It's no different then getting a 220swift and chambering a 1:7"

Ah, so. See, I know nothing about .22 centerfires. I reckon the .223/5.56 works well enough for it's purposes, but I've never been a fan of the round. If shooting ~200lb mammals is the goal, I have a 18" 6.8SPC. I've shot moa with it at 300yds, but no opportunity to take it further. I was really digging on the 6.5G, but 6.5G uppers were considerably more expensive than 6.8SPC at the time, so that's the route I chose & it works perfectly for my purposes.

Shame you can't get the .473" AR15 bolts & barrel extensions anymore, as I'd love to try a .270AR or .257Bobcat.

I think the idea of any caliber voodoo is 100% marketing hype.

I can tell you that a CF .224 gets the job done on 300lbs of fresh meat, sometimes 1, or 10 depending on factors.

I can tell you that the smart person for a .224val needs a properly done QPQ barrel, and I would not go beyond 20" in with a spr or lighter weight profile in a forged upper. I would also look at XL gas systems and port it, not adjustable it on the gas block.

Billet & 20" + barrels is a bad idea.

All the way around the concept is fun, allot of headake for the home builder. By the time a home builder gets it running, shooting tight, it's time to rebarrel.

I like the unusual & the different, hence my fascination with the .41Mag. I won't say I got lucky with my 6.8, but I did a bunch of research beforehand & bought a quality upper & LPK.

I'd love to try my hand at 500yds, but have nowhere to shoot that far & not enough glass (& likely skill) to boot. In another lifetime, I shot M16A1s at 400yds with irons. Did pretty well back then, but I'd love to stretch out a bit & my eyes just aren't what they used to be.

I had thought about getting this round. But Harrison's (owner of AR15 Performance) Tac 6, 556x42 just fit better. If I only had to go on factory ammo then sure the Valkyrie would be the top of my list

I am close to selling my 6.8 barrel to fund a TAC 6 barrel.

While I really miss my 6x6.8, I didn’t move my reloading setup when we moved. So.... going to give the 224V a try. Have a LaRue barrel coming.

Just completed mine tonight. LaRue barrel and bolt. Syrac adjustable gas block. Will be shooting the Hornady 88 grain ELD-M when they release it.

Looks good brother

Running a Recce 5 on it?

I was all set to build one to have when my OPM arrived but several things have really set me back (most recently a hit and run accident). Pretty disappointed.

Bummer man... hit and run?! Cowards!

Saving up for a Recce 7 to use on my 6.8s too. Have all Griffin MDs just waiting!!

Strangely 224V is showing up in walmart of all places. We got some federal 75 grain TMJ rounds in at my store and i saw some at another store as well. 20 rounds for $10.

Almost makes me want to build one after i finish my Beowulf pistol.
