2nd Annual Battery Oaks Fall Meet and Greet

Regrettably I will not be able to make it after all.

I've had to shift some family commitments around and my son's birthday party is now scheduled for the same day. We were going to do it the weekend prior as his Birthday is the 16th, but due to unforseen circumstances we have to move it. I'd love to come hang out with you all, but I'm not the kind of dad who misses birthday parties ;) .

And if you were, we wouldn't love you as much as we do.

WHY KNOT is this questions. I think if the weather is nice, besides guns and great looking females running around topless and Chad running around bottomless,, what could be better. Some good cigars during the shooting times. and after the shooting maybe a cocktail or 4 to finish off the day. Then maybe the steak, seafood or BBQ dinner. After dinner a run on the beach. For the older group maybe a streaking run/party. Billy, Michael and Larry know all the police................no problem. Besides the cigars, I will bring some brown water and my camera to see how crazy we can get. I head the runner to beat is B00ger. Word on the street is he is fast and hard to catch.
IS THIS GOING TO HAPPEN?????????????????

Sounds like someone started on the cocktails early... ;)

Bigfelipe, people around here have birthday weeks so I figured that what we can have pre-party for 2 weeks. Hell, to make this work we will need to have members ALL -IN. I bet Billy's range has never seen anything like we can do. Do not think the neighbors with complain because of all the rounds going off throughout the day. Hell they may want to join us. Billy has that lake, think about how much fun could be had there. Use the 4-wheeler to pull someone across the lake. I have always heard the more the merrier. Isn't that true????????????
Bigfelipe, you too can make this happen! And BTY, I just ordered 15 new cigars and not drinking any more (stopped yesterday) so I will have a bottle or two there. Do you think some of those girls from Chad's basement will be able to make it. If we let them know Chad will have his ass hanging out Billy will need to reinforce the gates.

Ricky, right here is where you lost me.

OK, I will give up the run/walk on the beach. If everything else happens, this will be talked about by our great/great grand-kids. I can hear them now, "Our Great/Great grandparents really knew how to party". Do you think we should put pictures, bunt-out cigar butts and spent casing in a time capsule to preserve this event in history? Hell, if we do not kill the wizard, I would also put his ass in there with some live rounds for future generations and so we do not have to see him anymore!

I wouldn't give up on the beach run just yet if I were you. I hereby volunteer to be the designated barfer, since that's about all I can do, running-wise. :(

And I will be glad to be the designated fall-outer, but only if someone will help me get back up. (The only way I shoot prone/kneeling/seated any more is if I lose my balance while shooting offhand (or fall off the bench). o_O

OK Goobers......... Here is the deal on the B&M rifles you can play with that I am sending over with ammo.................

#1 500 MDM, I think I am going to send two of these, one is my Mrytle Stocked gun I shot a 100 buffalo in Australia with, and the other is the English stock Rifle that I used in Africa. I have various FORMED BRASS loads for you to shoot up, from 375 gr to 550 gr loads, none of them too heavy so even the sissy boys in the crowd will be just fine. The Myrtle Gun is Scoped, the English is Irons. Do keep in mind, the ammo is FORMED New Brass, it has not been ironed out nicely yet! I am sending some "Samples" of proper looking 500 MDM. I better not hear a damn thing about ugly ammo, cause it is ugly, and I am telling you up front and now about it. Winchester M70s, load from the magazine only.

#2 50 B&M. Sending over my Maple stocked 50 B&M and some 510 Gr bullets at a bit over 2100 fps. Should be big fun, its scoped and very accurate. I think maybe 50-60 rounds coming with it. Winchester M70 load from the magazine only.

#3 50 B&M Alaskan, This is the Lever Gun Version, sending a Hi Grade Browning M71 over for you guys to shoot. Have several different loads, I know some 400s at 2100 fps or so. Should not be any issues. Loading these big
50s in the tube can be a chore if you are not familiar with it. Make sure to push all the way thru until you know the round is caught up in the magazine. Also, a M71 you have to go all the way down with the lever until it clicks hard, which is lifting the round up to go in the chamber, you can't short stroke these guns, so make sure you lever all the way down.

#4 458 B&M Super Short. I had to send one of these little guns over for you to play with. They are tiny little bolt guns. This one comes in at 6.5 lbs and I believe 36 inches overall. You will like it a lot, and if you do not like it
then something is wrong with you. Winchester M70, load from the magazine.

#5 50 B&M Semi Auto. This is one of those things I don't mess with much. The loads I am sending over were done in 2014. I learned today, that some of these loads are in 50 B&M Quality brass, and they have THIN RIMS. It is a problem with these guns. I had several that the extractor did not catch the rim, left the empty in the chamber. This is a problem when trying to feed another round. You have to stop, let the bolt drop on it, and it will come out then easy. But it does stop the gun. This is a BRASS issue. Pete at Quality brass did not get the rims thick enough, while brass is equal to RUM brass, the RIM is not. I don't have anymore of these to send or I would not send them at all. So you might just have to bear with this, and keep it in mind please. Not the gun or the cartridge, its that damn brass. I am busy cutting some new RUM brass down, but I would appreciate it if you just bear with this and shoot this shit up! I have some 300 Hornady loaded to 2423 fps, most of it is in RUM brass, but this damn bullet causes a bulge in the case. I had one that would not chamber today. Shoot it up and we will get rid of it. Have some 385 Remington at 2112 fps, I think most of it is RUM brass, good load and should not be an issue. Bag full of 335 Raptors at 2320 fps and this is in the Quality brass with thin rims. These rims will occasionally not catch the extractor, so there you are.

#5 510 Wells. This is a Big heavy stupid 510 caliber rifle I built on a big Ruger Action. Its way too big to ever consider going to the field, it don't feed for shit either, not with real bullets anyway. You will have to single load this beast. I knew I would never carry this gun in the field so I never bothered with getting it to feed proper ammo. I use it as a .510 caliber test rifle only. A 510 Wells is a 460 Weatherby taken up to .510 caliber. They require big magnum actions like this Ruger that started life as a 416 Rigby. Single feed these, not through the magazine, it is fine. I have you some 535 gr Raptors that are obsolete to shoot up, they are reduced down to 2365 fps so it won't hurt the sissy's in your crowd. The bullet is obsolete only because I later thinned the Hollow Point some, and now the same bullet comes in at 530 I believe. After some test work I widened the cavities on both .500 caliber and .510 caliber bullets. This brass is also Formed from new 460 Weatherby, and does not look as good as Fire Formed brass, keep that in mind please.

Now, I think I must go find some RUM Brass that I can cut down to 50 B&M SA length..............

You may be overestimating our sissy's.

Seriously, @Michael458 , a big thank you for supplying the guns and ammo. I'd bet that most of our members have never seen or handled rifles like these, much less get to shoot them. Your generosity is amazing. You are making this event hard for us to top for next year.

Geezer...... Ahh, no worries. Honest it has caught me a bit with my britches down however. Such as this thin rim brass with the 50 B&M Semi gun. I can't remember loading that brass back in 2014, and would have thought I had tested that at some point...... but....... obviously did not. You guys will just have to shoot it up and go from there. In the meantime I am now going to have to cut and trim some RUM brass to get that going. I really have not messed with that thing in some years now. It never was at the top of my priority list. I never took the Semi very serious.

The 500 MDMs and 50 B&M that you will have there have been all over the world, have shot elephants, multiple buffalo, even bears......But sending ugly ammo too..... LOL.... will just have to over look the ugly ammo, believe me, ammo like that would never be going on a hunting trip! Nor would I even show it to anyone. Hence sending some proper samples for "Show Off".......... LOL.......... Of course the 50 B&M you can shoot in Billy's gun as well.

I told RS yesterday to tell everyone they better not send loaded ammo back, all I want to see is EMPTY BRASS..................and in the case of 500 MDM and 510 Wells, that will be nicely formed proper brass for future use.

A little funny story about the 510 Wells................

Many years ago a good friend here brought a fellow over and introduced him. Good ole Horry County fellow, but would get on your nerves with unexpected visits later on, after the intro. Well, along the way, this fellow brought his brother over and introduced him. Talk about an Horry County Redneck, the brother would be in the Webster's next to the definition of "REDNECK"........ OK very good. Until the Brother started dropping by, and he was loud and obnoxious to say the least. This was getting old. Brother fancied himself a real shooter, a real heavy hitter! So late one Friday afternoon he pitched up with one of his Redneck buddies! Came bouncing in no shirt on, being rather obnoxious and loud to boot! Now I was actually still working, and I was a bit aggravated with this unexpected, uninvited visit. But be that as it may, I greeted them.

Well brother come busting in, "I want to shoot the biggest gun you got"............. Took me a second, but I walked in and snatched up the 510 Wells, I had some 600 gr Woodleighs loaded at 2400 fps, so I took one out the box. "Oh no, I want to shoot more than one". OK, this was getting better to me, so I grabbed two more, for a total of 3 rounds. Off we go. This was before the indoor range, so I have a 50 yard bench outside the door of the garage. I started to get some other things together, and asked him how he wanted to shoot it? "Like you do, from the bench". OK, I started to get some earmuffs, "Oh No, I don't want any ear muffs, I want to hear everything and feel everything"....... Oh, now this was getting good to me! OK so I asked "Do you want a "SISSY PAD" to shoot with?" HEH... I added that "SISSY PAD" for a reason! Well of course Mr. Macho refuses the Sissy Pad, under no circumstances was he going to have any of that!

OK, now I was starting to enjoy this! Here is our boy, No Shirt, No Ear Muffs, No Sissy Pad and going to shoot off the bench! Oh Boy, this is going to be good to me!

So our Redneck boy sits down at the bench with the 510 Wells. I offer no coaching at all as to how to handle a big bore rifle. I put my ear muffs on, and of course I had already pinned him a target at 50 yards. He crawls into the rifle and turns one of those big 600 gr Woodleighs loose. He goes the other direction, and falls off backwards off the bench! He does not drop the rifle, but he gets up off the ground crying the blues and rubbing his shoulder! He staggers around a bit, a few choice words, and carries on a few minutes. I drag Round #2 out of my pocket and start to hand it to him! He is saying NO NO NO, I am saying YES YES YES, you had me bring extra ammo, now man up and jump on it! He tried to get his buddy to shoot it, but the buddy refused. He was shamed into shooting Round #2.

Oh my God, talk about a FLINCH. Round #1 went dead center of the target! Could not ask for better. But Round #2 hit 20 yards in front of the target, in the dirt! LOL............... He manages to stay on the bench this time, but he is hurting now. Shoulder is blood red, some tears coming out and running down his cheek. He walks around a few minutes, more choice words, I am grinning ear to ear now! His buddy is just plain laughing at his dumb ass!
About that time I drag ROUND #3 out and start walking towards him with it holding it out for him! I swear, I think he is going to run! After some coaxing and shaming him, he finally takes it, shoots round #3 20-25 yards in the dirt in front of the target, puts rifle on the bench, and heads for his truck. As he is leaving I told him "Now every time you come over, I will have some more of these loaded for you to shoot".................... I have never seen him again, never heard of him or from him ever. That has been years ago........ HEH HEH.....................3 Rounds rid me of a lot of aggravation, well worth the price.

I may have told this story already? If so you just have to bear with me...........

So these little 535s at 2360 are not so bad. I can always load some more 600s at 2400 if you want? HEH HEH................

. Your generosity is amazing.
To put things in perspective and to lure more folks down to shoot this ammo he is sending is Over $1,000.

His only request? Send back nothing but Empty brass. Again we will be going to B&M HQ Friday, leaving about 4 PM. The trip is worth it just to have access to this. You will be surprised!!! Billy

Why Geezer, I have several rounds that I put your name on with a permanent marker............... Those are "Real Special"....................LOL...........
Wonder what Raymond Burr did with that Ironsides van? I may be needing it.

Stuck notes in bosses inbox. Need off for 18th and 19th. Going to family reunion. I'll call in sick if they are crazy enough to want me to work those days. See you fine folks late Friday night.

Hey. Somebody leave the light on for me.

I apologize for not reading through the entire thread, but is anyone camping out there Friday night? I've got a van and an air mattress so I'm up for anything!. I'm 3.5 hours away according to Google so if I can start heading that way after work on Friday it would put me there by 9 I'm hoping, sooner if I can get out early. If not I'll leave early Sat.

I'll be camping but I snore so I don't recommend parking anywhere near my tent. Billy makes me set up over near the cow pasture so I don't disturb the bunkhouse.

Can I bring my good camera or are people on the lamb? I have a drone as well if you want me to do some video. Let me know.

Drone video would be awesome! I took several videos at Battery Oaks while I was there Fri-Sun. I have one of @BatteryOaksBilly cleaning the Wizard with his Glock. I mentioned to Billy that Battery Oaks should figure out a way to have a "Battery Oaks" You Tube Channel. He seemed ok with the idea. It would allow a platform for all of us to post our videos from Battery Oaks. It would become a great archive of our experiences on the range at Battery Oaks.

@BatteryOaksBilly , what say you?

We'll be there Friday evening with my RV...

Hoping to get there early enough to go to the range with everyone, as I really want to see the place in person. Not sure if the old lady can get out of work early enough though...

A drone would be awesome. I've never seen one of those shot down before.:D
As far as pictures, can you put black tape over our eyes?
