2nd Annual Battery Oaks Meet and Greet Picture Thread

I held my arm up so I did not touch the feathers of the Ostrich.

Hover hand, the smart way to touch folks you don't know. Even if they're large, lethal flightless birds.

Looks like I missed an outstanding event and some amazing food. If I get to come next year I'll inflict some curry on y'all, because I'm fairly sure noone else will.

The largest and heaviest living bird, the ostrich is flightless and instead is built for running.
With its powerful legs, the ostrich can sprint in short bursts up to 43 mph (70 kph),
and can maintain a steady speed of 31 mph (50 kph).

Just FYI that was a "problem bird"....... He was causing issues at the back of the village where we were hunting. They asked me to shoot him. Never thought much about shooting a ostrich, or even where for that matter. I am sure some of you have been around troublesome roosters right? I mean some of them come out and mess with you.......... Well, same thing, this is just a really BIG ROOSTER. He had actually broken one fellows legs, he chased everyone that came out the back of the village........... so a problem bird.

So we drive up, and sure enough there he is, strutting around. I have a Marlin Guide gun with me in 45/70 at the time, I believe loaded with 350 Hornady Flat Points. I get off the truck, and WE start walking towards each other, yeah, he is coming at me too........... I aim right in the center of mass and turn one loose on him! He then runs around in a circle and slowly spins down just like a spinning top, it was a sight to behold and we all did in amazement.

Village folks turned out for the coming festivities and were very pleased that this problem had been sorted out for them..............

Sorry no pics worth posting here but like I said in the other thread, MUCH MUCH thanks to many for making all this happen. I personally wish to thank YOU, yes YOU....and those other guys too. For being a part of this GREAT THING WE HAVE HERE IN CFF... my carolina firearms family.
anyone traveling through the charlotte area is welcome to visit me for a proper harassment..

I must admit I do not wish to wait another whole year to do this again...

Shaun

They're also quite capable of "Bruce Lee" kicking an attacker to death.

I hate that I missed this one again. Looks like everyone had an awesome time. I'll make the next one for sure.
Agreed.

Next year I have 2 road trips planned. One for Chad, the other for Billy.

For now it's just living vicariously through the pic threads and texts.

As per your request, i will ask a question....after you pulled the trigger on that problem bird , did it look like the aftermath of a sorority house pillow fight?

Not so much, but there was a hell of a lot of blood, spewed out in circles.............

Good thing my mama raised me right, otherwise if I knocked over that bird I'd be the one on that pedestal.:(

Yep........ true. However, as I recall meeting you Friday, you didn't have a lot of hair on top, so you would not have made much of a flat rug...........kinda like a mangy possum I reckon..........

HEH........ Just funnin with you! LOL

Our little shooting contest brought out some good points yesterday. We finally came up with a system that allowed everybody to shoot as much as they wanted to. @Geezer and I thought long and hard how to get as many people qualified as we could for the money round. This included multiple tries.
Our original intent was to test folks with what they carry. 3 of the 5 "winners" followed the spirit of the test. One of them, who will remain nameless, pulled some Hoo-Doo while I was away from the event for 5 minutes. Be that as it may, the ones that went by the "rules" have my appreciation and respect. I won't make that error again. As soon as I can determine who would have finished in that person's place I will see that they get their prizes.

While I sit here, I am dumbfounded how somebody could show up at a gathering of people from an organization as good as this one and behave in a less than a Southern Gentleman's manner. My regulars and the great Shooter above looked out after me yesterday. Had I been made aware yesterday of this person's comments around the burn barrel and actions on the range, he would have been Number 4 in 15 years to vacate. You know who you are.

I aspire to have the temperament of my friend @Jeppo , but I ain't there yet.

There’s one in every crowd. Hopefully this person will read your post and realize they were in the wrong

Just stopping by to thank everyone for making me feel so welcome as this was my first adventure meeting most of you. I had a wonderful weekend with great people and look forward to seeing many of you again. For you're amusement, @Burt Gummer thumbing the putty cat. (@Johnny try not to get tooooo excited, he's spoken for)

Welcome, @Lil D ! It was nice meeting you this weekend. Take care of my boy and I hope to see y'all again real soon.

Well, I’m glad no one took the order to “shoot at will” seriously after the contest was over! The way I shot the plates yesterday, it wouldn’t have done much good for me to shoot back...:(
Hahaha, after the little competition was over, Billy declared the range open and "to shoot at will." Well, @willpgn started looking for a place to hide. Somehow, he managed to stay safe.

HEH HEH............. Well, that is a Hyena mounted. The package is a hogs skull and teeth from Australia. I have not got around to unpacking it just yet......... Now here is the fun part, it has been sitting there since
2013.................. I will get around to it one of these days, thought about it the other day, but got busy................

Thanks Button, damn birds are extremely delicate................

Thanks for the info. Hogs skull and teeth huh?...okay...if you say so....
Just funnin wit ya.
In all seriousness, I really really am disappointed i couldn't get down there early enough to take advantage of this great opportunity.
And I'm no expert on taxidermy but I look at that picture and I can just see the camera lens fogging up from his or her breath.
And those eyes.....they're staring at me!!!!Make it stop!!!!

My wife and I had a fantastic time meeting our hosts and many other members for the first time, Crazycarl stuck no less than three .41 Mag revolvers in my hands and not only were they beautiful guns, they shot beautifully!!

I was also fortunate enough to shoot one of the big bore rifles which was amazing! My wife said I looked like a school boy playing with his favorite toy lol.

My wife won the first raffle draw and walked away with a shooting rest and I was drawn 3rd and came away with one of the CFF/BO tumblers, my wife has already started hinting she may adopt it!!

Thank you Billy and Ronnie Sue for having us and to everyone who helped make this such a great event, my wife mentioned that she hasn’t met so many people for the first time that made her feel as if she was around life long friends!
