....Morriss told WLOS that each bus cost at least $616,000, and the city had to spend another $200,000 for the installation of each charger,
another $118,000 every year to lease batteries for the buses, and nearly $45,500 annually in electric costs to charge them.
She also noted that maintenance costs for the electric buses have topped $250,000.

(yes, TWO-s last name)

I say we strip out the electric motors and battories. Drop in two engines, one for the front end and one for the back. The them in to NASCAR SPEED BUSES.
Steering/driver on each axle I assume for some wicked powered drifting?

They'd still make fine millstones.

Good point. He probably did. A project like this likely got a big chunk of federal funding.
Which means Asheville didn't waste their own money... they wasted everyone's money. Don't you just LOVE collectivism?

The only good collectivism is the collective punishment of government officials who piss away taxpayer money.

Pour encourager les autres.

The grants for heavy equipment haven't been great, we're being pushed to apply for them. I forget what NC got last year, IIRC it funded replacement of like 10 vehicles. The main push is green groups hitting every single council meeting, squeaky wheel gets your tax dollars.

1 needs a door to run, and they stopped making them.
I'm not the brightest, but I think I could fix that one.
I can just see an old-school, early nineties-style, aging hippie-crafted, Bluebird bus conversion 1/2" CDX panel & Lowe's spruce 1x2-framed, Minwax American Walnut-stained door with the bottom 2" delaminating, mounted on brass-plated National Hardware 3" removeable-pin hinges screwed to the steel door frame with rusting 1-1/4 coarse-thread drywall screws gracing le Grande Entree of the bus...

Vintage Ashevegas, but with an avant-garde twist.

EDIT, with post-caffiene & calories clarity: this post was a comic response to @Catfish 's comment, not about his professional design & fab skills! Something about the notion of "bus conversions" just conjures up ancient memories of lofty visions gone awry.

The joke is actually on all of us. While California gave Proterra $3 million, they also received $10 million from the Paycheck Protection Program. That debt was forgiven before they went bankrupt. šŸ¤¬

Volvo Penta won the BK auction for the battery side of the business.
That includes a partnership with TecnoGen, part of diesel powered generator manufacturer Bruno Generators Group, whereby the pair will collaborate to support charging infrastructure for electric heavy vehicles.

Gotta be green these days, even if you use diesel generators to charge large ev batteries.

3 downed busses

has anybody passed the required service tech course to change so much as a lighbulb?
if not, then they'll keep sitting.

So much fail here that I keep coming back to it. The bus is idled because somethings wrong with the door. We park a running, operational, public mass transit vehicle... because of the door.
Meanwhile, elsewhere on the planet where The People aren't pansies:

Put them up on blocks, send Governor Abbott in Texas an email to send Asheville some new democrat votes.
I canā€™t for the life of me connect the dots here, but I like the idea of creating hundreds of fake letters from Asheville residents to Abbott telling him that Ashville would welcome immigrants with open arms.

More insanity from the liberal doomsayers. CO2 plays very little part in any warming of this planet. The sun is the main culprit and its just the natural solar cycles.......and we have no power to change it.
