Fact is, for most Americans that don't have family that speak Spanish, they only here it from contractors they hire.

I would be interested to see how many of those detained are actually charged ect. As mentioned above, they could have "detained" 30, but really only find 1 or 2 that were taking part in any shenanigans.
That said, the story is already going around all the on-line communities filled with people calling for a boycott of BCA (as if they were flooding them with money to begin with) on one side, and an equally large part of the group thinking its not a big deal.

Edit to add: I am curious about the rules for detaining employees under this sort of situation. I had a ram radio discussion this morning with a guy whose BIL showed up to work there yesterday. He is a non Hispanic, natural born citizen. He had to show his ID and then was confined, not allowed to use a John or anything, and not "free to go". He was never questioned or anything and finally released. He had no idea what was going on and didn't find out until it was over. He believes he was unlawfully detained.
Maybe it was a way to separate the known innocent to keep everyone safe, and to keep others from getting suspicious.

I’d buy it.
Only issue with that is the majority of Americans are too damn lazy/sorry/green to do the work. Cutting off welfare programs, funding good trade programs in schools, and restricting disability qualifications would help more than anything. It is next to impossible for construction/manufactoring companies to find good help that is non hispanic. Most of the young white and blacks around here are unwilling to learn a trade that requires hard work even if it pays well. It is easier for them to sit at home and leech off of society.

You're wrong. Once the illegal below-market low-wage earning workforce is gone, the free market will adapt to what is available. Since your location isn't given, I would assume you're in a rural part of the state. It's funny that all these firearm and car companies have relocated to poor states like Alabama Tennesee and SC to take advantage of that very phenomenon.

You are correct about me being in a rural part of the state. Trade/construction jobs are far from lowpaying but finding someone who is willing to actually work is next to impossible. The company I work for pays production workers extremly well and offers decent benefits. We are very careful to only hire legal workers and a lot of the guys who work here have become citizens. The point I was trying to make is that welfare and entitlement programs are a much more of a threat to us than illegal immigrants. Take the freebies away and the leeches would be forced to work. We hire a lot of blacks and whites but the majority of them have no work ethic and could care less about the job. Keep in mind my opinons are based on what I have seen working in costruction and related industries since highschool/college.

My uncle has bee a GC for about 40 years. He fixes the mistakes of the Mexican contractors that have already been paid for doing shoddy work. If they would've just hired his crew in the first place, overall costs would be lower. No entitlements involved in that scenario. He's not the only contractor I have heard this from lately
I can understand that and a lot of the Mexican contractors do shoddy work. Our issue is finding quality employees that are willing to work. The whole thing is a mess any way you look at it.

Exactly...they are continuing to not spend the money they didn't intend to spend there in the first place.
I hear it all the time from builders who say "The Mexicans show up and work! I can't get white guys to do that."
Um yeah..it's just a damn shame you have to teach them the same job every day.
Don't give me the Spanish salvation rope a dope. I'm there too remember? Yes occasionally you find one that does shine. But most of them will never rise above the level of ditch digger. Does that make them less human? No. It just means they dig ditches, and the large reason is they have to fly under the radar and a higher profile position could expose them.

When you hear a contractor say that, what he's saying is "I pay these guys $10 an hour under the table with no questions asked and no insurance or social security or workmans comp or taxes and I can't get white guys to do that."
Hell no you can't get white guys to do that. They're beholden to the law, their family, their country and the idea that you play by the rules.
The illegals are just here for the money, and they'll tell you so.
I don't know if I'm more offended at the practice, or the implication that he thinks I don't know what the deal is.
The contractors best defense is that the white customers are always complaining about how much stuff costs. And it's true. Everyone wants 5 star quality at 3 star prices. The biggest complainers are the ones with the most money. They got plenty of it to pay 5 star rates, but they just don't want to. It's some sense of country club entitlement that makes them think their purchase is more special-er than everyone else and they should get preference...driving the economy you-know. (disclaimer; Not all wealthy folks are like that and many are wonderful people. But the expectation of "a deal" is more prevalent within that demographic.)
The building trades are a mysterious entity for most people. Low bid often just sounds like a better deal. So contractors hire these illegals and they build a pig with lipstick. Looks real good when it's fresh, but give it a year or two and see what it looks like then.

Apparently ICE was rolling thru Durham today picking up a couple. A couple people at work where twittering about it and passing a warning to illegals they knew so they could hide ... can you say obstruction of justice?

Amen to the "country club entitlement" comment. That's the main reason I don't make the drive out to Lake Toxaway any more. Not worth the hassle.
I am a p/m at a precast concrete company and starting pay for production workers is $11.00 plus benefits/ample OT which is pretty decent for a entry level/laborer position. Most of the guys make $17-$20 which is a fairly decent wage around here. It is hard work but nothing unbearable. The majority of the non hispanic workers we hire last about two months and are crap employees (I could tell you horror stories). Many of our Mexican employees have worked for the company 5-10 years and are some of the best people I have had the privilage of meeting. Several of them have become citizens and are home owners. We do everything in our power to ensure the people we hire are leagal as do most of the larger construction companies.I realize illegal immigration is a problem but based on my experience the general sorriness of white and black males 18-30 is a much bigger threat to society. The majority of companies that get busted for hiring illegals contract with third party staffing agencies that pay all temps the same wage---its just the hispanics that apply for the jobs. BTW I have never seen a Mexican who needed to be shown how to do a job more than twice. They grew up working and fixing things and able to solve problems/figure things out unlike most Americans under 40.

I was a fan of BCA until this- NC company, great prices- but I always wondered how they were selling things so cheaply. Now I know- doing it with illegal labor.
What I heard on NPR (gasp!) is ICE did these raids in NC in retaliation for several NC sheriffs refusing to partner with immigration enforcement.
