Finally got out with the 300 and some 240gr (Seconds) I got from Midway back when someone possted the link on the old site. I can't find for the life of me where I got the reloading data for these but it looks like it was over pressure. Not catestrophic but gots to back off for sure. They did draw some nose ridge blood however :) Scope creep for all you programmers out there.

Of course all the SNIPERS out there say it's too big and will tumble etc. Well, it aint tunblin at 100yrds and this is a crappy Mossberg Patriot shooting 1-2" groups on over loaded rounds. The 240's pack a punch.

Here are a few picks. The load was 66gr H4831SC 240gr HPBT Don't load this, it's too much.

3rd shot knocked it over

sorry bout the blur

The other hole is where a cowboy round of 30-30 with trailboss knocked out the old bolt. This is just old rail road iron.

The primers are cratered, but the edges are still round. Might need to check the firing pin hole in the boltface. Any other over pressure signs?

Edit to add: also, the firing pin may be dragging a bit, or protrusion a little short.

I agree with @John, the primers are still well rounded and I don't see any ejector swipe marks. Bolt not hard to lift. I suspect the firing pin hole is a little large.

And, obviously, two of those rounds saw no pressure at all. :p

Bolt was still fine and easy and the primers are CCI. Why? Think maybe I am being too cautious?

Which. CCIs? How many reloads on the brass?

Like others said the primers are still rounded and not flat not really an over pressure issue.

So here are my thoughts-

Primer wasn't seated all the way.

Primer pocket loose.

Could be firing pin protruding out a little further (out of spec/needs replacing)

If you are using a mag primer and that happens well there might be an underlying issue that needs to be addressed with the rifle.

If not using an mag primer then not much of an issue as the non mag primers have a thinner cup and CCI's non mag stuff are one of the thinnest

I started with 220gr bullets and had load data for that. So it would seem the 66gr H4831sc works well since there is no tumbling and no over pressure signs. All the little holes in the paper were perfectly round. I shot about 50 rounds.

That's like $100 in new bullets! Glad you guys got me reloadin.

Sushhhhhh. The reality is you don't save money. You get to shoot more. Now keep quiet before somebodies wife finds out and spills the beans.[emoji41]

It's a zen thing for me. You have to concentrate on what you are doing so the rest of the world and it's problems melt away. You are firmly grounded in the present, the now. You are the moment, you are one. The committee meeting in your head is clocked out. If saving money is your tale and your wife or girl friend aren't buying it, tell them this one.
