I'll be picking up an AR10 tomorrow. Although I've owned a .308 before, it was never fired, was sold and as such, I never bought ammo.

I was talking with a friend that says .308 is his favorite and he recommended Hornady American Whitetail. He says it's a hunting load, but shoots like match grade.

Anyone here have any experience with this ammo?

I can affirm that the Hornady load is awfully good stuff

Depends what you want to do. Why didn’t you ask me first lol

PSA always has sales on Federal Gold Medal Match 168s (Sierra Match King bullets).

CBC/Magtech 168gr BTHP (basically the big brother to CBC 77gr BTHPs that are awesome in a .223 AR).

Hornady Black 155gr AMAX

Once I get the rifle looking like I want (yeah, I know), I'll be looking to use it on hogs.

In that case, Barnes VorTX with 168gr TTSX Tipped copper bullet. It’s a hammer

I hunted with the Hornady stuff for a season with my Amalite. It worked just fine and held minute of deer. For precision I would use something else in the 175gr area. For plinking and cheaper fun the cheap russian stuff worked just fine out to 300 yards and held about 3-4 moa.
