ihave a stock Savage model 10 bull barreling 308 . It likes to jump around a lot. I am getting it threaded for a brake. What is a good one that helps with that.

I’d recommend Kahntrol Solutions.
Very effective brakes, and good local guys.

You can even save your money on threading the muzzle - they have clamp on brakes that really good. They make a max loaded 300 WM kick like a 243.

When I crossed that bridge I picked up a CMMG brake for around $60. It works OK.

I did see one video by a company advertising their .308 brakes on full happy switch. Hardly any muzzle rise at all but it was a few bucks more. Being able to get my scope back on target and see hits or vapor trail is why I added a brake to begin with. .308 recoil is manageable.

The recoil is nothing. But like you said I want to see it right after. Mine jumps so bad it’s not even funny.

As a gunsmith who has installed hundreds of brakes, I recommend either the "Vais" brake or the Holland. I put a Holland on a .338 Lapua that weighs 9 lbs. You can shoot it all day long wearing a tee shirt and enjoy yourself with no recoil issues. Clamp on brakes are not the best when the exit hole should be .020" larger than the bullet itself.

I don't have experience with a wide variety of brakes, but on my AR10 I've installed one of the Stoner brakes. I get a lot less recoil and jumping around, but the back blast can be bothersome. The Stoner brake was about $30 on Midway when I got mine.

EDIT: Just noticed that this thread is a zombie, raised from the dead to live again. :D

That brake is nice, and AR's have threaded barrels, so the brakes are screwed on. The clamped brakes have a larger hole to compensate for the barrel O.D. which is off center to the bore. If the gasses are not vented properly, the efficiency of the brake drops dramatically.

Cheap Midwest Industries brake works well. Some mfr makes a brake called Little Bastard. I shot a 22-250AI with it on and it works very well.

I am sorry. I missed the mark by a decimal point. The exit hole is .020 larger than the projectile. I must have had a "Senior Moment". 20 thousandths larger than the projectile.
