After the gas ring fix and testing from the other thread, the PSA AR has mostly sat idle. Some mag change / dry fire practice but no live fire.

Today I got another class in and the round count is now 3250. It was warm out again, rifle got nice and hot with some 60+ shot drill strings (I stepped up to the line a few extra times when there were empty spots). Because I was not super early to class I got a crappy gear spot that was in the sun all day it didn't get much of a chance to cool down even while 'resting'.

There was one malfunction early in the day. We were shooting the rifle dry, transitioning to pistol, then transitioning back to rifle with a reload and then some follow up shots. On one run the charging handle got snagged on my sling on the way back up from the transition and got bumped open. When I dropped the bolt with the release the sling kept the charging handle tied up which kept the bolt from going forward and seating the round. I pulled the handle back and let it go and induced a double feed. Sigh. (no really, I literally sighed and said "damn" standing there looking at my handy work).

Other than that, it ran flawlessly on the usual wolf steel case fodder. No blowing oil all over my arm, not too much gas, no surprises. I did not clean it during the class or add oil, I just let it run to see if it would crap out. It did not.

The class never went over 75 yards, they mostly focus on close up / fast shooting so my 1-8x optic is a detriment vs. a red dot. When bumping shoulders I have a hard time getting my left eye lined up with the tube. It should just be like a red dot, but the longer tube makes it not like that at all. For a short range fighting rifle, the variable optic seems to add weight / complexity that is totally not needed. I'm hoping to get out to longer ranges, my goal is to 'own' 0-300 yards, and with my bogus eyesight and no glasses I can't make those 200-300 yard shots without magnification. Hazards of getting older.
