Thinking about getting a 3D printer and am wondering what if any are the environmental requirements. I'd like to get a rather large one (10x10x10" or so building area) but that means something non-enclosed and therefore due to us having several cats it would be banished to the "man cave" which is a small exterior non-climate controlled building. I can heat the room with a propane heater but that's about the extent of what I can do. I do use it for reloading, I keep all my powder and primers sealed in ammo cans and have never had an issue with that.

I also am somewhat concerned about noise since if it's not in the "man cave" it's going to be on my computer table/desk in the living room, and since some things (especially large things) take hours to print I think it would wear out it's welcome real quick if not with me then with my better half.

How much are prints susceptible to varying humidity and temperature?

How loud are they in general?

Thanks for any advice!

Thinking of something like this:

Can you build a box for it, that way you can stay inside the house.
I thought about that but it would need to enclose the filament roll and rack too, it's plan b. I don't mind having it out of the house (and off my desk) at all if the environmental issues are not a problem.

PLA, probably one of the most popular filaments, is moisture and heat sensitive, so probably wouldn't want it without HVAC in the summer.

plexiglass or lexan. Drill a hole for your filament. Print you out a pulley mechanism for a guide and smooth operation.

heated beds are nice and if you decide ABS the enclosure will keep heat in.

your imagination is only the limitation on how to make this work.

Also, PETG is a good choice of filament. Makers Geek or Hatchbox was my go to for quality filament
