44 Mag Rifle Accuracy

Best I ever did with a 44 Mag lever gun was a one hole, three shot group at 100 yards. My Marlin likes 240 g bullets, hates 300 g bullets.
300 g gives a pattern, not a group.
routinely get 2" groups at 100

Check the twist rate. For some reason carbine bbls always have slow twist making 240 gr the absolute top end.
My 1894 shot 240 XTP OK but couldn't keep 300s on paper at 50.

There are 200 and 210 bullets which may be best.

The XTPs are extremely accurate and ballistically better than JFP. I think a 300 XTP at carbine velocity would be ideal for 100 yd.

Henry uses a 1:20 twist, most everyone else uses 1:38 twist. That's a good thing if you like heavy bullets Mine hates 180 gr bullets, they pattern IIke buckshot. A max charge of H110 and 240 gr XTP's get me 1.5" groups at 100 yards. I'm going to try tweaking that load and also try 300 gr XTP's.

Should be able to shoot an inch or better at 50yds...with handloads. Never gotten factory 44mag to shoot accurately in either of my 2 Ruger 44mag carbines, Super Redhawk or TC. Factory 44mag seems to be loaded super hot, accuracy be damned.
