Folks I have never been a big revolver guy.

Of course I do own a few of the mandatory wheel guns like a GP100 snubby in .357, an LCRX in .38+ and .22, a Taurus 627 Tracker in .357 and 2 Judges.

I feel like I need a revolver in .45 Colt with a 3 or 4 inch barrel.

If this old Jarhead was to purchase such a pistol what would be some suggestions for a suitably sturdy specimen that I will not have to refinance my home for?

Many of the pistols I see talked about are what seems to me a bit more coin than I am willing to spend right now.

Suggestions greatly appreciated!

I didn't even think about the Italians. Very nice guns, but not as stout as the Rugers if yer into warmin' 'em up.

I'll admit to lusting after a couple of Taylor & Co.'s case colored & Taylor Tuned beauties.

Blackhawk Flattop in .45 LC. Doesn't get much better than that for under a grand.
Get you a convertible so you can afford to shoot it with .45 ACP

Mine's a Lipsey's sweetheart in stainless thanks to @powwowell and it probably will never depart from my collection until after I do. I expect my sons will fight over it. So I will most likely give it to my daughter's firstborn ;)

Anyhow, you can get that gun in blue at GrabAGun for under $600 plus tax and free shipping. And they have excellent financing options (that I am currently taking advantage of...)

Taylor's & Co is having a sale this weekend. Online only. Just saw it on Facebook. Check their website. They have a short stroke 45 colt Runnin Iron with 3.5" barrel shown. I have a pair of Runnin Irons and they are nice. I also have Ruger single actions and they are great also.

My Dad was patient and found a used S&W Model 25 a few years back. His has a 6ā€ barrel. When he was still shooting he said he was more accurate with that gun than his Model 17. You could look at a new 625 if you go with S&W. That would get you a shorter barrel and solid shooter.

I'd love a 5.5" .45 Runnin' Iron, but with a brass 1860 grip frame.

Well, talk about an education!

This is part of why I hang around this place. I love being shown just how ignorant I am.

I never even heard of Uberti or T&C. Ruger, S&W and Colt were all I really thought about.

And I was only thinking about DA pistols. So many considerations that I have to cypher.

I am not a fan of the cowboy looking pistols and most of those are SA I would believe.

Taylor's & Co. is an importer. They import a lot of Uberti firearms from Italy, both revolvers and long guns. Virtually all of their firearms are replicas of the 1860s-1890s. They don't do double action revolvers, as far as I know. Hope you find what you are looking for.

Give them a call, they just might make you a deal. It is year end for them. They have an OPEN HOUSE the first weekend of December. You can drive up there ( Winchester, VA) and just might strike a deal. A long way to drive though.

That .44 special GP100 ain't no slouch. Shot one over the summer and now I need to choose blued (black...) or stainless :D
Ik, that 45 Colt Ruger Red Hawk will take you to places you've never been. @Michael458 has some ammo for that particular gun that is Brutal...300= grains at too much to print!! The beauty of course is that it goes down to Cowboy loads just as easily.
Believe me, a 44 mag will Not get to where this particular Ruger can take you.

ETA..I can't shoot the Hard Kickers any more....But If I could this Ruger would be my tool. I have owned 3 of these in this barrel length in 44 and they just "look" right to me.
My 44s are S&Ws....and yes ,again to me, they make that Ruger look like a tank. It is!

@Ikarus1 I didn't realize you were a s/a fan. You shoulda come over at the meet & greet & taken some of my .41s or the .357Max for a spin. I kept handing @Tarowah guns & had loaded up 1oords of .41 specifically for blasting away by the s/a or .41Mag curious.
Yeah I wish the rain had held off a little more. I was too busy shooting @willpgn s AKV 9mm pistol. But yeah I love me some big bore SAs. Wish I had bought @JT Redhawk 44 mag. That one got away
