.458 HAM'R - Firing In Slow Motion

Wow. That looks pretty potent. But is it that much if any better than 458 socom?
about 20% more energy (3K vs 2.5K).
More of a difference than 224 Valkyrie over 6.5 Grendel :)

It will be interesting to see whether "a little more" is interesting enough to succeed in either of those cases. I think 6.5 is here to stay. 224V will be an oddity IMO. And with Wilson controlling this one and keeping the price up, it will never grow beyond a small audience. It has a custom upper and custom bolt, so it isn't an AR-15, or an AR-10. Maybe someone will do an unlicensed knockoff but with 458 SOCOM, 450 Bushmaster, and 500 Beowulf, the "Hammer" space is pretty crowded already.

I guess everyone is looking for something different to make some sort of margin the AR space. I wish them all good luck - the more the merrier!

Yea that just about kills it. Its hard to justify buying a proprietary upper and bolt just to shoot a round that is slightly better.
And on that note, Why? As a range toy? Go ahead its your money. For hunting? What animal in NA can this kill that a .458 SOCOM can't?

That’s quite a bit of competition in such a small corner of the market. Only time will tell.

I wish the 458 SOCOM was a SAAMI round. Ruger & Howa both said they'll make them after that.
I want a 458 in a short (Howa mini bolt) action, 16-18" threaded barrel with at least an 18/1 twist rate to run 450g+ subs in. Anyone want to get rid of a Howa action cheap?

Doesn’t really justify the price tag. I wouldn’t shoot either past 200 yards and the socom will drop anything to that distance..... well maybe not a rhino or an elephant but pretty much anything in the US.

Some will buy it. Majority won’t.
