IMG_5590.JPG IMG_5588.JPG I've got an old 5-screw Highway Patrolman that Pat Linthicum converted to 44mag. He replaced the 357 barrel and cylinder with a 44 barrel and cylinder. This was done before I bought the gun. There's no way i could afford a 'real' 5-screw Pre-29, so I was happy to find this one. The gun is accurate enough, but the action is has a couple rough spots, and the cylinder is harder to open in one position. I figured the ejector rod was bent, but I can't see it, if it is. Can anyone recommend a NC gunsmith that's good with old S&W revolvers? I'd rather not ship the gun off. Thanks

I know someone in Raleigh Durham area that could do the action on it. I think we have the same gun. I actually called S&W to ask them to work on mine and they said they would not touch it. I asked why ,you made it. Their reply was that mine was made in the 50's and they have no parts to replace anything that might be broken or breaks when they take it apart. From what they told me it was made in 1957 or 58. Mine has a little wiggle in the cylinder .I think it needs a new cylinder stop (oversized )Numerich may have it .I'm taking it to the guy to try and tighten it up. By the way ,those are a fantastic set of S&W smooth grips.

Is Pat Linthicum out of the biz?
We went to the same gunsmith school in Troy.
Haven't heard a peep outa him for a decade.

If you are willing to go to the Raleigh area, Kapp Ogburn is worth his salt in old S&Ws.

Tim Carrick right here in Davidson County worked on a 28 of mine several years ago that had some similar issues....big heavy cylinder and six small diameter holes.

This was probably 10 years ago and I don't remember what he did. Gun was right when I got it back. It took too many months to get it done. He may be retired now.
