How long does it normally take to get an approved 5320.20 back for an SBR? Also, do I have to specify exact travel dates on the form? Would like to have it somewhat open ended as I travel to SC pretty often but seldom do I know weeks in advance when I’m going.

Thanks

Probably 3-6 weeks at this point?

You can file them for up to a year at a time. That can be 1/1/18-12/31/18, or 12/5/17-12/4/18, or whatever you want...as long as the end date is at least one calendar day prior to the start date the previous year.

Do what I do and file them every fall for the next year. I already have approved forms for 11 firearms for 10 different states for all of 2018:

...and remember, suppressors and AOWs don't require a 5320.20 in order to cross state lines. ;)

I can't help but wonder if anyone has ever been prosecuted, as a stand alone charge, for crossing state lines with an SBR with no 5320.2 on file.

Is it a felony?

There seems to be an echo :)

WNC Seabee didn't specify felony or not but probably worth the time and hassle to do what Big Waylon does and pre-file

For those persona non grata in Canada here's the legalese link:

Thanks @BigWaylon

When it asks for the "transporting to" address...what if I am traveling to multiple addresses within the state of SC? List all of the possibilities? As previously mentioned I am not exactly sure where I may want to go with it as there are matches everywhere in SC.

Just pick one. once you have your hall pass you're gtg. right?

That's what I did. Hope it works!
Yep. The form is for interstate transport. Once you're in that state, intrastate is not limited (barring any local regulations).

I simply picked a gun range in each state I submitted...even though I've never actually been to any of them.

Emailed the form to the ATF on the 5th of December. Still no response. Was really hoping to have it back by this weekend. Pardon me for expecting .gov to do anything, but take, in a timely manner.

Call them today and ask for a status, at least confirmation they're pending.

When you call the main number, it basically splits the options between F1/F4 and everything else. You're obviously in the "everything else" category. I've found that the emailing and faxing methods sometimes have issues...at a higher fail rate than mailing them.

But the people I've had answer the calls have been very helpful. Just go in with a friendly "I emailed them in and wanted to confirm they were in the system" question, and they'll let you know. May not take more than 90 seconds start to finish, but at least you'll know if you need to resend them.
