56-50 Spencer of Civil War Vintage

A gun that doesn't really get a lot of credit for how advanced it was in its own era. Spencer Carbine of Model 1860 that was made in 1865.

Sadly, no. The rimfire reproduction rounds they make are expensive, and I could never find a breech block for a centerfire conversion.

It would make a neat 22rf reproduction wouldn't it.

Its an interesting debate in the "What If" moments for sure.
The amount of fire that the Spencer could bring given how close the fighting got would have certainly made some impact, but it will never truely be known if the Spencer could have made up the difference given the numbers gap between Custers 280 men and the 1500 Indians charging him.

True but the 7th had a 25% attrition as soon as they stopped due to one in four as horse holders. The Spencer could've helped a bit. Perhaps enough to make a fighting withdrawl if the command hadn't gotten so separated and strung out due to fire superiority on the part of the Indians. A topic for another discussion at another time.
