6,000 child killed in NC or injured by guns in 2022

I would like to see those stats broken down by age. I bet 90% are 16 and over and have a juvenile criminal record. Basically young thugs. We have a violence problem, not a gun problem.

There Are Three Kinds of Lies: Lies, Damned Lies, and Statistics”

(These words have been attributed to prominent humorist Mark Twain, British statesman Benjamin Disraeli, and others. Do you know who should receive credit? Would you please explore this topic?

Quote Investigator: Mark Twain did include this saying in an installment of his autobiography which he published in 1907; however, he did not claim to be the originator; instead, Twain credited Benjamin Disraeli. Yet, there is no substantive evidence that Disraeli crafted this remark. He died in 1881, and the remark was attributed to him posthumously by 1895.)

They don’t break it down too much further

About 1000 ages 0-11

And 5000 ages 12-17

You could go through case by case and figure it out though

Well the headline says NC but the article references the US. Pretty typical of the media to do this.
I think this is the problem. 40k a year killed by guns in USA. Half that is accidents and suicides. So it’s reasonable that a third are pre-adult.

But the real trap here is the whole “gun violence” thing. Like you don’t care about rapes and assaults? It’s another case of the grabbers controlling the language.

Last time I saw that they defined child as anyone under 19, and counted gang members shooting each other.

Poor writing again. If you just read the headline, which many will do. You would believe all 6000+ deaths occurred in NC. Then the article states 6000+ in the US. Wish we could fine a reporter every time they give wrong, misleading, or without facts in their articles.

Any time anyone in the news media has a number in a story, it's safe that to conclude the number is wrong.

It's amazing how successful the media has been at framing the discussion as "guns killing people", instead of addressing who is killing whom with guns, and why. So successful that even gun owners slip into using the same phrasing.

It's the age of "Personal Responsibility is Racist" .

More like 2/3

We just found out that one of our coworkers has a boyfriend on bragg. Our security guard was talking to her and found out he's the kind of guy who carries a striker fired gun in his sweatpants with no holster. when he can't carry it, he puts it in her purse. she thinks it's not very safe, but he says since it takes 5lbs to pull the trigger there's no way it could go off.
I heard that walking by and just said "felony". security guard said "chapstick and a note pad"
needless to say, she's considering safety and carry classes of her own now.

This is just absurd:

Why do the youth seem to think that having a gun solves everything," asked Karen Wells, whose 15-year-old son Ian was one of those killed in a shooting in 2021.

Ian was shot in Durham in 2021 after the suspected attempted to steal his gun.

"How are they getting these firearms? It's too easy for underage individuals to obtain a firearm. Because I didn't even know my son had obtained one," said Wells.

Her 15 year old son in Durham and met up with some people to sell a gun. Apparently he was shot when the "buyers" who were also juveniles were trying to steal it from him. Now his mother is quoted complaining about how easy it is for juveniles to get guns in an article about children getting killed by gun violence. Its all rather ironic isnt it? Its sad her son got killed, but there is almost no way he got that gun legally. It was most likely stolen and he was going to sell it to some fellow hood rats who decided to kill him for it. These are not innocent victims here. They knew they were breaking the law...

And to top it all off he is now one of the 6000 number that gets bandied about to demonstrate how evil and dangerous guns are....

That's because it's less painful than trying to determine how one failed as a parent.

In times like these I often think of this quote: “YOU people have not given Private Pyle the proper motivation! So, from now on, whenever Private Pyle fucks up, I will not punish him! I will punish all of YOU! And the way I see it ladies, you owe me for ONE JELLY DOUGHNUT! NOW GET ON YOUR FACES!”

While my heart is sadden by the fact a mother had to bury her child. Her statement about it it’s too easy for underage kids to get guns has the undertones of I wasn’t involved enough in my child’s life.

I understand and agree kids will do things that parents may not know. However, with the proper level of engagement, those things are limited to playing video games after bedtime, sneaking a snack before supper and etc.

A child’s ability to obtain firearms should not come by surprise. I mean, look how long drugs have been illegal and they are more readily available than guns. So it’s not the availability of weapons that’s the problem. Just like with drugs it’s the demand for them that’s the problem.

Remove the demand and the supply will go away. I’m not saying that the supply of legal gun sales will go away, but the supply on the black market. Parents have got to engage in their child’s life, teach personal responsibility, educate them and give them the tools they need to succeed in life. I could go on and on about this topic but I have the feeling I’m not telling you something that you don’t already know.

Yeah I’m calling in the BS patrol here. 6,000 would be an average of 16 per day. Unless the news is asleep at the whelk, I’m just not seeing it. I wanna talk the intern that they put in charge of collecting these numbers. Who put their hands on 6,000+ example cases and verified them.

Bull Malarkey.

Yes! What level of engagement, direction and supervision was she offering? Its pretty obvious that her son was running the streets with a bad crowd. Where did the pistol he was trying to sell come from? Did he steal if from a family member? Did he get it from some other source? He was a bad guy doing bad things and engaging in felony activities. It's doubtful this was his first time. Its also unlikely he would have been a productive member of society when he got older. Is anyone surprised at this outcome? Its sad, but choices have consequences. It's good that his behavior did not affect any innocent people. If the sale had gone through, innocent people likely would have suffered. As it worked out, he lost his life, and the other parties lost their freedom. Not a bad outcome given the circumstances in my opinion.
