My pops wants my 6.5 grendel ar. So I'm looking for a bolt gun in 6.5 creedmoor to replace it. Will only be used for shooting long range.

Absolutely max budget for rifle is $750 ( but would like to stay around $600 if possible). So I'm looking at the savage 110 tactical desert. About $600 with shipping and transfer. Has great reviews.

The other is the mossberg mvp LC. It has good reviews to but it is a mossberg...

Any others I should look at? Not interested in a a Remington 700, too many quality issues for me. Thanks

The ruger american predator in 6.5 is a nice shooter for $400. Add a magpul hunter stock or a boyds stock or MDT chassis to it and its a solid rig.

A PSA upper and lower AR 10 are right at $700 together.

The 6.5CM Savage I had was an absolute freaking tack driver. Legit sub 1/2MOA.

Get whichever heavier barrel model is in your price range and give it a go. It’ll shoot well out of the box, and when you want to really dial it in, drop the action into a chassis system (MDT is what I used).

If it had been a lefty, I’d still have that rifle. The $2k Tikka I replaced it with doesn’t shoot as well as that $500 Savage.

@Tim I have a Remington 783 in 6.5 that shoots great. I have thought about just putting it into a Boyd's pro varmint stock( bed it) and just it shoot till I get better.

Would it be better for me to just spend the $200 on the stock and the rest on ammo? I have a athlon Argos 6x24x50 that I can put on it just need rings.

Wish I could help. I know zilch about Remington or Boyd's.

Why not be the board guinea pig ... I only got a chance to fire a few rounds but a neighbor bought a Bergara in .308, it also comes in 6.5CM, on the after a Christmas sale. It’s a nice feeling and finished rifle. With Federal match zeroing in his new scope it held under 1 MOA ... more like .7-.8 in 3 shot groups. The final 5 shoot test was well under 1.0 MOA except for 1 flyer (good chance it was me) that opened it up to slightly over 1MOA. All that was first rounds out of the box with no trigger adjusting or such. He gave $700 OTD during that after Christmas deal so I’d bet you’d be right at the top of your budget.

I may end up with one. After doing some more research I can get a ruger for about $400 and put on a magpul stock for $250 and have a nice setup.

I have that setup in 308 and love it. Got the itch to buy a 65 so i'll have a pair lol. I put the Timney triggering mine also and the glades armory bolt handle. Its a tack driver for me with 165 gr accubonds.

Ok guys. The savage 110 tactical is out of the running. It turns out it is a special action that will fit in a savage 10 aftermarket stock but you will have to replace the factory bottom metal to use a aftermarket stock...

So it looks like the ruger is going to be my next rifle. I will be taking a intro long range class in August. So I hope this rifle will work.

In your budget, I would get the American predator as well... or stretch it $40 and get a Ruger precision in 6MM Creedmoor. Its like $790 shipped at grabagun. Very accurate rifle, but if youre set on the 6.5, the RAP is good to go. I had one, bedded it in the factory plastic stock, cut 3 coils off the trigger spring to make it 1lb... and put a good break/cheek riser on it.. mannnnnnnnnn That thing shot AMAZINGGGGGGGGGGGG. Best bang for the buck

In your opinion does the slightly lighter weight barrel harm the ruger shooting? I normally shoot 1 or 2 5 shot groups and then let the rifle rest for 30 mins or so ( aka shoot other rifles :) ). That's about the only back draw I can see with it.

I think every gun is a little different. It may mess with the tightness of the group, but probably won’t bother you if you’re shooting steel. I had a ruger American ranch 223, i shot probably 30 rounds straight through that thing, had the barrel too hot to touch and it just kept printing 1 hole groups at 100.

But you’ll be fine for a few 5 shot groups before you might want to let it cool down if you’re just shooting groups.

The 110 Tactical does have a slightly thicker-width bottom metal than the 10, but most aftermarket stocks will have to be inletted anyway. The great thing about the 110T is that newer ones take AICS pattern mags. I have a 110T and bought a lightly used factory McMillan A5 stock from an older 10 Tactical. Took me about 20 minutes with a dremel and then “bedded” the 110T bottom metal with Devcon before painting it.

If you go the chassis route, like KRG or MDT, you’re set anyway since they use AICS mags.
