Economical as far as AR hunting calibers for a .223 lower?
Hunting ammo is expensive unless you reload. Just like every other boutique AR caliber. There's always Wolf Steel 100gr for plinking, but
it costs the same as 7.62x39.
I hunt with 60+ gr .223 soft points out to 200yds with no issues.
You have hogs? I hunt at Pee Dee Wildlife where the hogs aren't as big as the deer so yeah, no problem.Hogs too?

Premium bullets and long barrels = dead stuff
Take a look at the 6.8 forum. They really like the 6.8 for hogs. I stopped using my bolt action .308 and strictly use my 6.8 on deer.6.8SPC is a hammer on deer & supposed to be big medicine on hogs as well. ~ $1.00/rd for hunting ammo. No idea what 6.5G hunting ammo runs, but either is packing more than enough heat for your purposes.
This. My 6.8 hammers deer and the recoil is non-existant.6.8SPC is a hammer on deer & supposed to be big medicine on hogs as well. ~ $1.00/rd for hunting ammo. No idea what 6.5G hunting ammo runs, but either is packing more than enough heat for your purposes.
Haven’t got to slay any hogs with my Grendel yet, but when I do my load of choice is going to be 123gr Hornaday SST. From everything I’ve read it seems to do the job well and isn’t terribly expensive. I’m supposed to be doing a Helicopter hog hunt early next year in TX so I should get plenty of opportunities to try that load out during it.
Grendel is a solid choice for most game in the USI’m looking for something I can use for both. I’d love to go on a hog hunt eventually.
