I want to build a 6.8 SPC SBR. I will be shooting it out to 300 yards but mostly around 100-150. Is this possible? What’s the best length barrel? I’d like to go as short as possible and still have good velocity/energy out at that range. I don’t mind a lot of drop. Thanks for your help.

I used to hunt with a 16” 6.8 with a Yankee Hill Machine barrel and I could take the top off a deers noggin at 250 with it easily.

Never heard of Bison Armory, I’ll have to check them out. Thanks
Well respected in the 6.8 world. Probably a toss up between them and ARPerformance. I think @Crazy Carl runs a Bison on his?

mine is a 16” BSP that was cut down to ~12”

Mine has their 18" SPR barrel. Legit sub MOA shooter out to 300yds (furthest I've shot it so far).

I just acquired a 6.8 bison armory upper. Previous owner shot a 3 leaf clover at 300. Today when I picked it up.

Now I need to learn to group them from this rifle like that.

You're gonna love that gun.

@I'mYourHuckleberry - 6.8 was designed at the behest of the 5th SFG for increased lethality on man sized targets to 450yds from a 14.5" barrel. 6.5G gets a lot of well deserved cred, but the 6.8 shoots very well & hits hard in its own right. Plenty of deer, black bear & feral pigs have been taken with it.

6.8 was designed for 14.5" barrels & doesn't gain a whole lot of velocity with barrel length. If I had it do over, I'd go with Bison's 16" Recon barreled upper.

Arguably one of the most versatile hunting rounds for an AR15.

I appreciate the info. I think I’m leaning toward a 10.5 to 12.5 inch barrel. I’m wanting to build an SBR and would like to go as short as possible and still have a decent round. The bison 11.5” sounds pretty good.
