Made some ammo up right quick last night, threw a scope on her this morning, bore sighted at 50 and punched the rest of the cardboard at 100.

Got a bolt issue to figure out, but other than that, I like it!

Once the scope was where it needed to be she was quite accurate. I'll go back this week and see what the heck is going on with the light primer strikes every other round. It was like shooting a single shot. Ejected fine, loaded the next round fine, then click. Pull the charging handle, check the round, light strike. Load new round in chamber, bang. Next round click. Lather rinse repeat. Pretty annoying.

After taking this bastage apart to figure the bolt carrier and bolt catch issue out I think the bolt was just gummed up and I'll test that theory out asap.

The bolt catch on the other hand has me a bit perplexed. It's almost like the catch doesn't go high enough to catch the bolt. It touches like one tooth on the bolt face and definitely not well enough to hold the bolt back. Hopefully I'm explaining that correctly.

@11B CIB does that make any sense?

Yes, when I get home from the grocery store, I'll be able to type a better response. Right now I am herding a three-year-old around the store

Okay, got some time to think

What brand? Or is it a combination of parts?

I've seen this on a .308 before....can't remember the brand. The bolt catch was only holding like a tiny tiny bit of one tooth of the bolt. He ultimately replaced the catch With a larger aftermarket one, but he filed some off a tiny bit of the original catch that hinges inside the lower, which allowed it some more upward travel.

I'll do a little more digging, and see if I can find something more helpful.

I just did some filing on it, and that has done the trick! It's a rhino matched set. Tight as can be too. To bad they went out of business :(

Kevin is up in Canada this week working, but I think we've got it figured out now. Thanks!

Back to the range for some more testing soon.

Glad that worked....probably did that before I posted I took so long

Here's one of mine for reference

Very nice buddy! Only took you a lifetime to get it together :p I've been eyeing the aero ar10 set in the for sale section...really need a big frame AR. That's what I keep telling my self at least.

Very nice! Glad you got it figured out.

I need to take my long range Ar out..... But it's hard to find match ammo local! Lol and I only have access to a 100yds.

So the bolt latch was causing light primer strikes? How so?
No. That was causing the no lock back issue.

The light strikes I think were because the bolt was gummed up but we'll be testing that theory in a couple hours

So... Did that fix it? Inquiring minds would like to know. Also what weight bullets are those? I've got a 6mm wildcat that I still have to load some rounds up and shoot.

105gr. Berger on top of 42gr of H4350 amd a CCI large rifle primer in hornady brass.

Didn't get to shoot today, after the doctor appointment tomorrow we'll take it out and see what happens. Fingers crossed...

Didn't get out there today either. Good news though, sold the wife's Harley so I have more room to work now. Well, the cash is good too. LOL

One weekend we need to get out and shoot some. I've got a 6.5g AR that I am going to need to sort out the ballistics on.

When she finds out, you're toast

@BurnedOutGeek gah what's with all the excuses! Just go shoot it! Lol jk jk after I built my last Ar it took almost a month before I could test it out. Sucks not have a rifle range near by :)

And she's looking good man!!

Daughter's wedding is tomorrow, it's been a little hectic. Just spent the last 12 hours driving up to PA...

I'd much rather be shooting it tomorrow. Wait could that be misconstrued?

Finally got some testing in. Won't bore y'all with all the different crap, but other than the bolt catch being out of spec it's now running well. My guess was it was over gassed and was getting bolt bounce back. Tuned it down and now it's perfectly reliable from my limited testing anyway.

Moved the scope up a bit too. And got to go prone and use the bipod. Got some numbers on the chrono too. Running close to 2900 so I'm going to bump her up a touch more and see how it is, but this node is good to go.

Pretty tight groups. The shot at 1 o'clock was the sighter, 6 in the right hole, last 3 in the center. Granted it was close range since I didn't feel like moving all the crap once I got it set up for a 10 round string of chrono data.
