Almost makes me want to move to LA.

"One hunter made $150k last year"...

That's 25,000 of them - that's 68.5 per day.

Man... Those swamp rats are right tasty & go 10-14lbs fully grown. Cajuns mighta started eatin' 'em 'cos theys hungry, but they kept eatin' 'em 'cos theys tasty as all get out.

Seriously, it is one of my favorite game meats. Has me eyeballing the groundhogs at the end of the road & day dreaming about a capybara hunt in Argentina. Lol!

So far I'm 3 for 3, regarding eating rodents- squirrel, nutria & beaver. Good stuff.

Never had nutria, that I can recall.

Definitely try it if you can. I believe they're considered invasive & can be taken without restriction.

I saw one time on TV in Florida they were letting the swat teams practice shooting them. It was pretty neat.

We used big saltwater rigs to catch them in Lake Charles. Some of the restaurants paid big money for gar meat.
Saw one guy hook into a huge one while standing on a sandy beach. That thing drug the guy to the waters edge several times. When he landed it the thing was over 6 ft long.

They have capybara in Florida now. Almost hit one in Ocala...

Capybara? Dancing kung fu? Like in those movies?

More like a miniature version of donkey from Shrek but with hamster ears, running across the highway... Goofy looking little things. Cute though...

I didn't even know it was a thing. Long time ago I saw this video, was drawn in for the fun bags, stayed for the fish.

Young groundhogs are fine bbq'ed.

I'd give it a shot. Also want to try alligator gar. Not much about the outside that says "yummy", but cooked it looks mighty good.
We always snagged Gar. Then broke their bill & threw em back in for catfish & turtle food.

Back in the 80's when fur trapping was a real thing, I would get $6 for muskrat, $2-3 for possom, $3 for rabbits, $12-20 for coons, and $30-40 for fox. Running a trap line before school would get me $75-150 extra cash each month.

I hate giving Vice a view but that was interesting. Long time ago I watched a documentary short about a guy who paddled around in a kayak with a "trailer" popping nutria with a suppressed Savage II.

So if you claim the bounty do you have to turn in the whole corpse or can you keep the pelt?

It went up, it used to be $5.

There used to be an odd job show??? Hosted by comedian Dave Attel, a LEO member would ride around the back of a pickup truck with a spotlight and a .22 lr rifle. Killing nutria rats on the outskirts of New Orleans was his job!

Just turn in the tail.
